Cold Winters Day in Victoria Australia SUP Surfing Video
« on: July 30, 2016, 02:58:01 PM »
Hi Guys
Attached is a short 2 minute video I made on the day of the WSL final.
After watching the progression of the Fiji comp and keeping an eye on the conditions at my local waves I had to leave the live broadcast for the best tide times at an ok left reef break that breaks quite a distance from shore.
Polar opposite conditions from Fiji yet the stoke meter was high especially after watching the comp in my spare time for a few days.
Temp was a lovely 45 F.
I have been SUP riding for 4 years and own a small SUP retail business.
Second time using the GoPro.
Obviously need to tilt the camera up a little as you can see on my last wave, stoked I could make a clip out of what was really a camera test.
Regards
Jack

Looks like you almost had the entire place to yourself. One thing about 45 degree F air temperature, you don't have to fight with other sup riders to catch a wave.  ;)

Thanks for sharing your video.

Jack... that was a great vid!
Your camera work was fantastic for a paddle cam.... really good angles to show size and ride.

Nice waves by the way, looked really fun... keep them coming...it's flat ass calm here a;; summer, so we need some stoke!

That's hard to get with a paddle cam, nice.

And waves to drool for.

Cheers Nightwing, Supthecreek and SurfinJ

Lots of improvement to be made on my clips, I think having the best ride first rather than last is the way to go unlike this edit. Turning the roll camera on and off between rides and can be difficult and was having to turn the actual go pro on and off on occasion as not all rides were written to the card?
The bigger down the line rides usually on offer were scarce that day and unfortunately none captured. Its a classic spot for paddle craft with an all welcome atmosphere which is good.
Clip day I practically made my buddy come out as its a bit of a common spot for large marine species of the unfriendly kind.
Only one other bloke was out that day and he was verbally stoked to see us on arrival.
A small pod of Killer Whales were spotted frolicking just next to the break only two weeks ago.

Following the M2O this morning on a live map, its ace technology the link is below.

How do I put my boards on the bottom of my posts ?

@JackR

To list all of your board's under your posts:

Click on "Profile" in the Menu Bar (Home, Forum, Help, Shopfinder, Manufacturers, Advertise, Recent, Search, Profile, My Messages, Contact, Members, Logout), hover your mouse on "Modify Profile" and then when a window opens up, click on "Forum Profile". Then scroll on down to "Signature" and start listing your boards in the empty window to the right. When finished, then scroll on down to the bottom of the page and click on "Change Profile".

Hi, thanks for making the video and sharing.

I dug the caught inside shots where you held up the paddle, and the diving under the waves, the underwater shots look great.  Look forward to more videos.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Jack

I gave up turning it on/off.... the battery dies quicker with every cycle.

I hit record and let it run.... even my 3+ will record 1.5 hours

Easy to spot the rides in the video..... the "sound" bar will tell you where they are. Rides are noisy.

Then I simply delete all the non-surf stuff

Hi Linter

Yes legrope is on the wrong foot, I wish I could surf goofy and regular.
I am currently getting over a knee sprain (12 weeks now) from using a really thick chord calf leash with a 9’ SUP.
I had a bit of a sore ankle over summer that slightly inflamed of an evening and kept me out of the waves for a few weeks so I changed to a calf leash and never thought twice about going back to a regular ankle leash.
The knee sprain or strain started whilst surfing 5’+ waves for over 2 hrs on my backhand. On two occasions I felt my knee tweak a little bit when bailing my board in front of me at the too fast end section of the wave. At the time it did not hurt all that much but the next day I really felt it.
Next surf again on my backside, jumping over the back of a small wave my board kept going and I really wrenched my knee from the force of the board pulling my knee sideways at the calf leash.
The next day any slight movement of my leg the wrong way and I would 'yelp' in pain.
Unfortunately I spent half my Family vacation that started the next week in Fiji on crutches.
I now wear my ankle leash on my front foot and do not find it in the way or awkward whilst SUP surfing, however I am looking forward to wearing my leash back on my left ankle some time soon or investing in a waist leash.
In 2013 at 41 years I had a Total Hip Replacement via the Anterior approach on my right hip, this has made me be more cautious and pro-active with strains and sprains.

Regards

Jack

Nice little edit and that break is looking fun. Nice riding too, very proficient.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Cheers Surfercook

Yes that Vbox was originally one of my board's from the 2015 Australian Summer, sold it to the nicest bloke who made plane covers and I believe you bought it direct from him.
I read the post you originally put up about buying that board and proudly showed my wife that the board still had my sticker on it.
Stoked the board made it all the way to the USA safely and it is obviously putting a smile on your dial.
Will be definitely " Riding till I can't " and will look at adding my url if I ever get a web site that I am stoked on.
Instagram is more fun and up to date.
Thanks &

Nice video. Short, intense, solid camera work and fitting soundtrack.

Happy to see that you didn't wreck the vehicle while driving on the wrong side of the road.

Thanks for sharing your video.

You guys from down south are funny.

45 degrees would be a delightfully warm winter day here in NH.
