Big quiver, more dilemmas!
« on: July 29, 2016, 05:16:07 AM »
So, I have this big demo quiver, but most of the time it's just a handful of locals borrowing them, so they're here, with me most of the time. You'd think something like,"hey, a perfect opportunity to really see what boards I, actually need", and "now I'll be able to know what I can live without".  Well, it ain't so!!
Instead of having a "goto" board, my Sup disease has gotten worse.  Instead of saying, "this one, for me, does it all pretty well", I'm starting to select the board based upon slight variances in wave conditions! I have made some progress and have two new loves, for sure: 8'2" Surf Pro, and 7'11" Wide Surf, but the addiction continues.
We've had some descent waves down here on Hatteras, though this last few days have been less than perfect.  The bump starts again here in a couple of days. If anyone feels like coming down and catching the affliction, let me know, here's what's on hand:  7'2"x28 103 liter Slate
7'6"x29 115 liter Slate
7'6"x27 91 liter Surf Pro
8'2"x28 101 liter Surf Pro
8'6"x29 113 liter Surf Pro
8'10"x30 128 liter Surf Pro
7'11"x30.5 106 liter Wide Surf Pro
8'8"x32 135 liter Wide Surf Pro
9'3"x32 146 liter Wide Surf Pro
9'8"x31 152 liter Fusion Pro
10'8"x31 191 liter Hybrid
12'x32.5 217 liter Allaround

I've gone the opposite way. Bullet 17 and Starboard 12'2" (ancient) for downwind, Foote 10'4" and L41 8'8" for surfing. Everything else collects dust.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I'm downgrading too. NSP 14' Race for distance. I'm selling my NSP 9'8" and NSP 11'. I'm replacing them with an indestructible Pau Hana 11'. I'll also keep my big red plastic board. Otherwise it's just keeping boards I don't need.

A note on Pauhana. Long time surfer bought one from a local shop. Immediate problems. This was a regular construction board NOT one of their new supposed bulletproof models.

However, the shop also maintains a huge rental fleet including several of the new bulletproof construction. They ALL fell apart!

Promises, promises, caveat emptor!!

How far down in HI are you located? Heading for a day trip on Sunday. Starting in Pea Island and heading south checking out the usual spots.

I guess my quiver mania whatever it is comes from "I'm old and can easily afford it, why not, what am I waiting for?"  My main exclusion is my wife just doesn't want to see boards all over the place, but she is becoming a little desensitized now.

The inflatables were sold for spare change because I hadn't used them for two years. Inflatables are fun, and the idea of using them for safety and learning was the right way to go.  The Vernor 9x32.75 was great learner for sup surfing and balance on a hard board, but fragile build and just got more eggshell brittle as it aged. It only went out two times for me in over a year and a half and once for Jay's visit, sold for leftovers.

Prowave with it's latest scrunches, fractures and bends is going to beater status.

Sunova boards for challenge and variety.

Three boards now, Prowave 9.3, Sunova Speeed 8.10, Sunova Flow 8.7 (when and if delivered).

I think when I get my yayas out on the shortest Flow, I will probably eventually do what everybody else does after going short:  pick an all around board that is comfortable, handles well and suits most conditions, maybe one other calm day shorty for a surfing quiver and leave it at that.

Of course, I still haven't gotten into race boards or downwinders.  If I tried to bring one of those boards home, the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the spousal unit will make me wear my helmet.

It's not about the quiver size guys, it's about the opportunity to demo some boards.

Hey Jarvis, will you be bringing all those boards up to Long Sands this fall?

jarvis.... nice little quiver you have there!

I will be in Hatteras in mid September.... will you still be there?

I'd love to drop by for a test day :)

If not... I'll see you in Maine.

Howdy Creek, Badger and the rest.  Creek, you dog, you'll have a blast down here in Sept, but I won't be here.  Badger, yup, they will be coming north.  I'll take them just about every time I go surfing to Maine, Rhode Island, and even the Cape if Biggie and Creek will sell me a day pass. I'll even be sporting a couple of different boards when they come in this fall. Some new models and some I probably should have had in the demo fleet all along.

"My name is Jarvis, and I'm an addict"

Luckily, my garage size is my limiting factor to my quiver size. I'm bursting at the seams as is.
