360 Viento
« on: July 26, 2016, 10:34:19 PM »
I took the 360 cam along today on what looked to be a nuke+ day. Turned out to be a bit calmer. Swells were good size though, and in this entire 5 minute video I think I'm not in a full-on glide for maybe 20 seconds. As usual, the wide angle lenses and low angle make the wakes look pathetic, and I look like I'm stirring concrete with the paddle. It looks like I'm miraculously running along at 9 mph for no apparent reason. With light wind at the top and bottom, and a crazy Maelstrom in the middle, I still did 1:16, which is a new record for me. I'm crediting the Mana. I did seven full on faceplants in the middle section. It was vicious.

That sure is a beautiful place in the salad months.

I looked at the 38th surfcam for Santa Cruz, and it looked like it was imbedded in orange smoke from the Big Sur fire.

I have been in Pleasanton trying to paint in 102 degree weather.

Is it not showing as a 360 video?

That looks like an awesome run. Does that camera have the capability of a spit screen? One screen facing forward and one back or even 4 screens (Left and Right) instead of the merging it all into one

Wow, that is cool Bill! So fun to pan around. Look like a shmakkin day in spite of the cam flattening it out. You can see the wind is cranking.

Since I have appointed myself as your unpaid manager, I would point out that you need to tighten up how you wen go tie your slippers on da bahrd. How's that? The buggahs draggin in da water brah!

Really? Do you see a wide screen with an odd looking board? Can you scroll around? The raw version of the picture has two halves of me to each side, like a very distorted panoramic. the iPhone viewer offers several choices including a VR mode that you can view with included glasses. It also used the gyro in the camera to scroll around by moving the phone. The VR is impressive 3d immersion with just a pair of plastic glasses that clip onto the phone line Google cardboard.

Looks like a very nice place to DW. I don't have waves like that near to the shore on the upper Texas coast in the Gulf of Mexico.

Thanks for sharing the video.

The gorge and Hood River are very special, Diane and I say something like that every day. Hood River is a small town (7,300) with the service infrastructure of a city because people come from everywhere in the world to spend time here.

If I watch the video on my MacBook it works perfect.  If I click on the link on my iPhone I get the double-Bill effect with no controls.

Ah, very interesting. IOS Safari strikes again. The iPhone has an app to work with the raw images, but you need the actual file for that to work. Probably an artifact of Apple's long pissing match with Google.

I love the idea of a head mount for this, though geez, what a price to pay for some video. The geekiness of a helmet PLUS a strange penguin-shaped device on top. I'm at the outer edge of dipshit apparel to start with, I'm afraid that might put me over the edge to the point where police take notice. No, not the fashion police--they run away from me, screaming.

The camera comes with some strange double-plate chest or back carrier. very complicated. If I can figure out the straps maybe I'll give that a shot. It's mega-heavy duty, even includes a carry strap that looks stout enough to lift a goat.

I have an overwhelming urge to change digger's "perfect" to "perfectly". The editor disease strikes again. must...  resist...
