Thanks, Cheat. I think in Newport, dogs ARE people....Apparently very rich people.  Yeah, I'm doing my vet patronage in Santa Ana or some other place that regular people live in from now on.

Our friend works back of house.  I asked her if she thought $1,600 was excessive.  Her response " Not sure but prob not".
Agree with others.  This should not have been a surprise.

I believe that  means the fact that you were surprised is a failing of the vet for not informing you that it could be that much, not of you for not knowing.

You can spend an awful lot of money on a pooch. Out dog had hip dysplasia. the breeder said no problem, he's guaranteed, this is the first we've ever had. Bring him back to us and we'll replace him. Yeah right, After he spent six months sitting in Diane's lap. So $10K later...

The little shit also knocked a jar of peanut butter off the counter, and ate it all, including two handfuls of glass. Surgery, of course. So $6K later...

Then we left him when he didn't want to be left. Never a good idea with a dog that's smarter than you are. He got into Christmas presents for our friends and found the dark chocolate--poison to dogs. So $5K later...

Now we're back talking to the same breeder about getting a pup similar to Sam. Because he was a great dog, and worth all the silly expense. Enough money to feed a kid in Africa for most of their life. So of course since we do this silly shit for a dog, we have to do more for various kid charities. So multiply all that all times five. Dogs and kids are expensive, but a conscience is more.

Zoo...Sucks you got blind sided on that deal.

I don't know about doggie dentists, but I went to the dentist once a month for 8 months to catch up with work.
Included, rebuilding 2 teeth completely, cavities, and caps.

Cost?
average around $77. per visit.... around $700 total

I couldn't afford a dentist for a decade.... I had to check every price before I made the appointments.
All I could afford was the local Trade school dentistry program.... but the only person who touched me was a very good, long term dentist.
Cash got 50% off

I had to know I could afford it, before I could get work done.

For comparison..... most dentist told me $1,500 to fix 1 broken tooth. So I didn't smile for a few years. :-[

kinda like SUP shopping... good deals, bad deals.

Can I have the number of that dentist, and can you pick my dog and me up at the airport?  :)

Zoo.....I told my wife I should have been a vet when our cat (with a bad cold) spent the weekend in a box with an oxygen feed and they gave me a bill for $500.

I used a dog dentist once, and nice as he was, he had trouble doing some of the work due to his lack of thumbs.

Well, you can use my dentist as long as you don't mind laying between Scruffy and Fluffy, for your treatment.
