Tips on shipping new board from Canada to US
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:15:58 PM »
Buying a new board (inflatable) and could only find it available in Ottawa Canada.

They can't ship direct to the US so I need to use some kind of package forwarding service. My understanding is that some charge a lot of extra customs brokerage fees.

Anyone done this before and has any tips?

Looks like I was planning to ship it to a UPS store in Canada and have them ship to me.

Thanks

There should be no reason that they can't ship it to you directly - I do it all the time.  (I own a shop in Canada)

There is additional brokerage fees / duties and taxes - unless the product was made in Canada / USA / or Mexico (NAFTA).
The paperwork is super simple to fill out.

It's not that hard - - especially if it is an inflatable.

It is trailhead paddles hack. I ended up having to ship to a ups store in Canada which will forward to me. Not sure why they couldn't ship directly to the US but they insisted they couldn't.
The exchange rate helped a bit covering the extra shipping.

Wish I'd have known earlier....just bought a new board from them a couple weeks back.  Maybe I could have helped.

Not to "diss" another retailer - - but that is nothing more than being lazy.

I ended up having to pay Ontario sales tax plus the extra shipping and customs. Would I have avoided sales tax if they shipped directly to the US?
