Just ordered one for my daughter's 12th birthday. Should be perfect for the Event Site beach break. $149 delivered from Costco to my front door way out here in Hood River. Hard to beat that.

There's a whole crew of young kids on those Storms at my local every summer. Summertime traffic at it's worst!

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

They are usually seasonal and not in all stores, but I think you can order one online here.  But this is a 2 pack  http://www.costco.com/Wavestorm%E2%84%A2-9'-6%22-Stand-Up-Paddle-Board-Bundle-2-Pack.product.100282385.html

They had a bunch of them in the store out in Clackamas last time I was there. Don't get the twofer unless you need two. Lots of folks think they're going to break them. Hard to do. they're tough.

Ha great pic.

I saw someone get fully barrelled on one of those once. Granted the guy is frickin super human, but still, totally blew me away. He had a funny comment about the board too. He shapes his own boards, and he said the Costco board costs less than a blank. He also said it surfs really well.

Last season I saw lots of great surfers riding them, even on semi pumping days. I have a theory that they're changing surfing, or a symptom of a change that's currently happening really fast. People have been trying to ride Kelly Slater style potato chips for so long because it "means they're an expert surfer", but everyone knows bigger boards are more fun. Hell, they're even called "fun boards". But its been taboo to ride them. For awhile people rode relatively larger retro shapes like fishes and mini simmons and boards like that, but even those aren't exactly easy to ride. But the Costco board is just pure fun. And there's no pressure, since its kind of kitchy to ride one.

Personally I see SUP as a link in that chain too. Its a step down in performance on most boards but a huge increase in fun, in my opinion at least.

I know there's other factors, but it reminds me of what happened with skiing in the late 90s and early aughts, when skis got shorter and fatter. We always knew short and fat skis were more fun, but we had to ride long skinny skis since it meant we were experts. Then snowboarders came along and reminded skiers that this is supposed to be fun.

And on a sidenote, a friend told me that they redesigned the Costco board so they could fit a few more in a container. I don't know if that's true or not but its a great theory.

JP, she could sup that for sure. Bring her by the shop some day soon and we'll make her a paddle. I have some old Ke Nalu reject blades and cut down shafts. I'm sure we can make her something good.

Thanks PB, I'll take you up on that!
My wife took it out yesterday for a mini downwinder prone, from the Hook to the Event Site and said it was no problem for her to stand on it like a paddle board, even if it was a little tippy for her at 120 lbs. My daughter is only about 60 lbs, so she should be able to easily use it as a stand up.
