Attach bungees to board
« on: July 04, 2016, 05:13:29 PM »
I got stopped by NC Wildlife today for not having a life jacket -- never new they were required.
I'm looking to attach some bungees cords to my Bic board so I can put my PFD on the front along with other things like a dry bag, water bottle.  What's the best way to do so?

There are many products out there. I like these. You can buy the whole kit or just the tie downs. Very good quality.

Does your board have tie-downs?

If the board does not already have attachment points, assume no if you are asking this question, there are a few options, NSI as already mentioned.
I used the SurfCo EZPlugs to attach 2 carry handles and also a pair as bungie tie-down points for a cooler/dry box which I can sit or stand on while fishing.

I bought these recently and they work well on my fiberglass board and carbon board-

Another option if you're just planning to carry a pfd is to get a type IV pfd than you can wear.  The up side is if you get separated from your board the pdf will be with you.

The link says the Onyx is a "Type V" which means it must be worn to comply.

Type III belt pack inflatables OTOH, like the Mustang are not required to be worn. Just another option for those who prefer to have the choice.

Yep, my board doesn't have tie downs.  I think I'll pick up those air head ones.  it'll be nice to swap them between boards.

Here's the NC law - http://www.ncwildlife.org/Boating/LawsSafety/ChildrenMustWearPFDs.aspx  They don't specify SUPs (never been stopped until the 4th of July) but I guess the PFD has to be type I, II or III

Get a 2 dollar whistle . You have to have a sounding device also in NC. Crazy,I know but get one.

You’ve probably already made your purchase, but I am also wanting to put some bungees on my board, but I wanted the bungee holders to be white. Couldn’t find anything until I googled “surf go pro mount”. Found these (https://www.amazon.ca/XCSOURCE%C2%AE-Bundle-Surfboard-Surfing-Locking/dp/B00K11UQIE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1468426303&sr=8-8&keywords=surf+gopro+mount) for under $10. If you want 4 tie downs you obviously need to buy two packs, but it seems everything else is in black. Should also mention that this is from Canada but I'm sure the U.S. would have similar (and probably cheaper!).

Those Go Pro tether mounts are a great idea and they cost almost nothing. Here's what the US site has.

Thanks Krash. I already ordered the Go Pro tether mounts though. It looks like you need to use glue for the EZ Plugs??? Just so you know, for the Go Pro tether mounts they are simply peel and stick. No glue required.

The EZ-Plugs come like most others with a super-glue type adhesive, some older ones had peel and stick application.. I attached them using an epoxy adhesive, read many post of the peel & stick applications, not just EZ plugs but many other manu products, that the application fails after a bit of time, use, and heat. I added carry handles and tie-down points for a cooler, don't want a handle coming off while carying the board across the rocks or roadway, and don;t want the cooler tumbling while I'm standing on it figting a fish.

You must have never tried the NSI bungee attachment system . If there is a way to get these off I'd like to know what it is. I have one in an unfortunate place, and I'm pretty sure I'd rip a hole in the board before the buggah would come off.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

True there, have not tried NSI or other brands, just did a little research and I'm sure that after a few failures by other methods many manufacturers and new ones in the market have either bailed or fixed their issues. I'm a rookie at this SUP stuff, been on the canoe/kayak side for years, just offering other possible options.

I used the epoxy adhesive because of my OPE, having confidence in it, and knowing that if I wanted or needed it could be removed, not easily but without destroying the surface. Never tried that VHB glue's.
