Oblivious.

Wouldn't you know it, another stand up paddler not paying attention even though it's Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.

Posted yesterday at Dorsal.com:

GREAT WHITE
9f length
Ron Clegg
Distance from Shore
20y
Type of encounter
Sighting from shore
Location
Seacliff State Beach
Weather Condition
clear

We just had a report come in of a Great White juvenile spotted from the top of the bluff on Seacliff Drive around 900 yards north of cement ship. The shark was shadowing a solo paddle-boarder staying about 20 ft behind him. A dolphin surfaced twice between the paddle-boarder and the shark. The shark then changed its course. Thanks to Ron for the detailed report. He was watching with binoculars and said he believed the paddle-boarder was oblivious to the event.

I'm sure that's been me more than I care to know about.  I had a humpback whale surface right next to me while I was paddling alone out in the ocean.  It was just checking me out. I had no idea it was under me even though it was 50' long and at least 10' wide. Lots of creatures out there.
It's not overhead to me!

I think a lot of people who are oblivious have no idea that they are.

We need to deputize the dolphins.

Either that, or train the sharks to go after drop ins.

People just need to stop looking for them...because apparently they're only out there when someone spots them.

Just don't look, and you're safe, nothing's in the water with us unless someone happens to see them to verify their presence.  ::)
