Cheap, safe, easy home surf racks recommendations
« on: June 26, 2016, 03:59:12 PM »
Want to build some better way to house my SUPs and surfboards under my house.
Anyone have any good photos drawings or advice?

Nothing too complex please

First define "under your house". It could mean a 2' crawl space or a 10' between the ground and the bottom of your second story home on piers. Pictures would be helpful.

Or if you have a lot of room there's alwaysw something like this. Yeah, I know, it's kinda dumb. Ya like those cable popping sounds?
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I've spent less than 20 bucks on racks to store 5 boards.  Eyehooks and some nylon rope under the rafters in my garage. Solid as a rock.  Slide the nose into a permanent loop at one end of the boards, lift the tail and loop a trailing bit of rope around it and use a swivel eye bolt snap to connect to a link on a short length of rope or to an eye hook on the other side.  Takes no time at all.

Disclamer: my wife likes much more cumbersome hard racks, but in all the years I've owned boards I've never had this system fail or cause a ding of any kind.

The rope technique between joists or rafters is the quickest and best system I can think of. Can also be done on the wall just loop the rope back up to the clip. that is what I do.

I'm lucky enough to have a tall shop, I can pull my truck right under my boards and lower them on to the roof racks.
Make paddleboarding great again!

I've made a bunch of racks from 4x4's with holes drilled in them for concrete stakes. Angle the stakes slightly upwards.

This is what concrete stakes look like:

The advantage of the movable posts is you can move things around for kayaks and different types of boards.

Cover with pipe insulation.

The 4x4s can be free standing or attached to a wall.

+1 except that I used 3/4" steel pipe.

Two steel threaded flanges, two steel threaded pipes, and some insulation foam for less than $20.
