BJs Getting Cool SUPs?
« on: June 23, 2016, 02:43:49 PM »
I was at BJs the other day, and I was curious to see what brand of cheap SUPs they would be carrying this season. From a distance, what I saw looked like a Naish One. Same color. Same general design. I thought to myself, “Is BJs getting cool or something?”

The answer was no. What I saw was a Body Glove iSup designed to look like a Naish One! Very sneaky, and a little tacky. And it's so obviously imitating the Naish, even down to the triangular pattern down the middle.

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Where do you think Naish got them. Uli makes inflatables in the US, but I think that's it.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Body Glove has been in the surf industry a long time.  They made the first wetsuit I owned.  I'm not sure how the board performs, but it doesn't look all that cheap (their site has it listed at $899).  I don't own one, but I'm sure there's a place for inflatables in the market. Capobeachboy I know is a fan.

We've had several threads recently extolling the virtues of the $350 Wavestorm sup.  I'm not sure I'd be too hard on the store for carrying an item they think they can sell, at a price point that works for their business model.   Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery...so the Chinese Industrial Complex says.  ;)

I hope I wasn't too hard on them. I'm glad BJs is selling SUPs! I also own a Body Glove SUP. I just thought it was suspicious how closely that one board was imitating another.
