Old fotos of Laird from 2004 (Hookipa)
« on: June 23, 2016, 11:46:15 AM »
A FB friend took these photos with his digital camera.  This was his first exposure to SUP.  He knew who Laird was (but didn't know him personally) and didn't realize until later that this was in fact Laird on the oversize surfboard using a long paddle.  Interesting how the board really is just an oversized longboard (not sure if it was a tandem or specifically designed for SUP).  Perhaps the board was shaped by Ron House?

Great pics.....I think my favorite shot of SUP ever is the one of Laird paddling out at Hookipa from Cammar's Maui Surf Report

My favorite Laird video is Admin's, shot at Ho'okipa, probably the same time as Cammars. I looked for it but couldn't find it. It had some wildly appropriate Klezmer music to accompany the video. The music rises and falls with the waves and Laird.

That was a wild time. We did some really stupid downwinders right around then. Laird went out the next day and put the nose of his board through his cheek.

That's a nice gunny shape.  I've seen those before.

14 foot, Ron House board. One of them was hanging on the ceiling at Hawaiian Island Surf and Sail for years, and Lenny had a second one he wanted to sell for $5K. I assume he paid Laird a bunch for them and wanted to recoup. Never sold as far as I know. I picked one up--probably 50+ pounds.

Hey Admin--put up that video. I wanna see it again. I'll watch it another 50 times. On second thought, maybe not, I still have a lot of work to do to get Peyote ready for the 4th.

If you ever get tired of calling your car "Peyote", you could always go with "Vroom 222", although nobody who didn't grow watching 70s TV would understand why.
