The guys got his 360's down. Nice video. Nice paddle handling too.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I would like to offer maybe a different perspective to paddling while on the wave.
I completely agree about not liking to see someone paddling along on,or in front of, a wave as though they never caught the wave and are still paddling towards the beach.
However, I recently worked with a top SUP coach whose first comment to me was to try to use my paddle with every board pump down the line. The difference was that the paddle was being used as part of board pumping skills, as opposed to just paddling.
I am attaching one of my all time favorite videos. This shows great paddle work during turns, but also when pumping the board for speed down the line.

Oh crap. So guilty. I don't hold the paddle off in one hand but I generally use it just to brace on the hard turns and other than that, it's surfing with something in my hand. This summer, I've been doing nothing but prone and, downwinders, of course. Thank god for those or I'd forget how to SUS altogether.

CTuna, that video is nice. I'd aspire to that as well.

ps, nice vid with Colin McPhillips too. Thanks Nalu. Lots of good stuff to work on. All we need is surf. Winter is coming.

I now have different boards for breaks as you would for prone surfing. If you have to paddle that much to make sections, then either your not moving around on the board to generate speed or it's the wrong board for that break.
Sometimes I'll bring a shorter board because Surfline showed it to be big. It turns out to be weak and I'm over paddling because I brought the wrong board.

This has been my experience as well.

I have been surprised to learn that board shapes that didn't work prone surfing work really well for me while SUS.  Norcal summer spots I use to pearl a lot on flatter fish/Simmons shapes trying to make the drop on down the line faster waves.  With the paddle I can get in early and at an angle and only pearl if I try to make a really late drop.  My summer time stoke and wave count is way way up.

And for me with the typical prone thruster/short board shapes I can pump in any size wave.  On sup shapes like this I really struggle to pump in smaller waves and find myself over paddling and working way to hard to ride the wave.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

I cringe when I see that......
It's like watching a skier not using their poles. The paddle is part of the dance. It's just a different dance than prone surfing.

or worse: double poling
