New King's Accelerator
« on: May 29, 2016, 12:47:40 PM »
Recently I saw on FB a new model called the Accelerator from Dave Daum at King's.
My Cardiologist said it was just the thing for summer fun..

We designed an 8'4" by 30.75" x 3.75" x 105 liters Accelerator. Glassed 4 4 4 with a patch top; 4 4 4 bottom with a new Topcoat that increases flex. 5 FCS II boxes.

Very different than the Lasers I have had prior. Less entry rocker, a slightly wider nose, less tail rocker, and a bump wing square tail that is more pulled in than the wide tails on the Lasers.

The bottom is not the usual single to double concave, but has a slight shallow single  concave to subtle panel vee in the tail.

Dave had made one for a team rider and couldn't get it back.

Air Cargo to Logan; perfect condition and pray for surf!

My initial paddle in a lake was scary. Water lapping everywhere and a sinking tail. A bridge too far?

Went for a surf in RI and found that it does catch waves a little easier than my other 8'4" which I believe is because of the reduced rocker.

The bump wing makes it turn easier than my 7'11' with a carvier feel. And it is fast!

Will report further as I get it out in different conditions. Paddled out at the local just as the wind came on shore. Strictly a balance training session. Much to my surprise managed to stay upright more than swimming!

And my ischemic heart healed and my ejection fraction went from 20 (UGH) to 60 (WOW) over the winter. No stents in the future!!! 😄

Let it come to you..

That looks perfect in every way. If I were to order one, I'd get the same exact board.

Mr. Big you're the East coast king of King's SUP. Quite the collection you have going there. That one looks a little small for me so I won't be trying to buy that one off of you.

I'm dig'n it. Dave does a great job. You're going to have a great summer on in.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

That's so kool!  A ripper!  The bottom reminds of the new Channel Islands Twin Fins ... flat entry to single concave to a vee out the tail.  Carvy and tight turn in the pocket with the added hip.

You're going to slash the summer/fall/winter waves on it! Darn it ... now I've an itch for the CI Twin and a new 6'6 or 6'8 SUP.

We just had a fun summer swell here on CC. Managed to surf 4 times in three days on the Accelerator.

What a great board! Looser than the Laser which is what you would expect with the bump wing square. But, it is still fast, an absolute rocket  rail to rail, even made a ridiculous late suicide drop hanging by a thread, into a snap and made it. Felt like a shortboard KINDA! Boom.

Amazed at how much speed I could generate in small conditions on the last day of the swell..

Still horsing around with fins, Twin, Twin with trailer, Tri, Quad, even FIVE small stretch which actually worked a treat.

Muchas gracias Senor Weed for the snappies!!

Damn that's pretty. I bet with that tail it would well with a quad and a stub in the middle.

Testing continues. Small waves are sooo much fun on this board!

Someday I'll figure out resizing and have a larger pic of the wave and a smaller of the fins. Oh well..  ;D  ;D  ;D

@mrbig

I like your 5 fin testing on small waves. Here in Texas, the waves on Galveston Island are the closest waves from my house (90 miles). Our waves are really small and I think they're even smaller than the ones you encountered in your last photo. When I eventually get myself out of dry dock, I am going to try a 5 fin and 4 fin setup for the small waves I know I'm going to encounter.

Thanks for sharing your photos.

Check out Colas comments on Seabreeze for fins on small wide-tailed boards. C-Drives mentioned. Also there is an amazing podcast with  FCS discussing everything. Blew up my data plan!

Google  FCS podcast on fins to get it!
