The Boga combo would definitely be a safe bet.  Stable boards for you & your wife to cruise around on, and also learn to balance well on a SUP.  Just don't expect them to go like your kayak.

Thanks for the two votes of confidence on the bogas. I've offered 1200 for both, we will see what happens. Anyone know about the overall quality of boga products? First hand experience?

I know starboard is really popular but the board I linked here looked really weathered. I did inquire about it incase the others fall through.

My wife has a Boga, as does one of my paddling partners. They might not be the lightest or fastest, but they are solid, stable boards that go pretty well and will certainly last you a while.
