An Unlimited Board from Jimmy Lewis
« on: May 24, 2016, 03:46:46 PM »
The Rail has been so successful as has the Sidewinder and Jimmy is all revved up to see what foam wonders he can produce.

But will it be 16 or 17ft long.

Rudder or not.

I've really enjoyed testing some new ideas out so let's see how far it goes next.

Well this should be fun. As if Jimmy wasn't fast enough. Now I definitely need to lose that weight and step up my training.

I like the 14’ x26.5 Rail but I’ve been jonesing for a x25.

Reason is my board needs to be a quiver-of-one, ride flats, chop, side and DW. It needs to handle a good DW and x25 would be sweet for flats.

26.5 is a good width for the 14’ Rail. I was thinking that by going longer one could handle a narrower board. Right?

The LWL (Load Waterline Length) of a 16’ DW board would be similar to a racey 14’er anyway. Personally wouldn’t want a rudder. Can understand it for big ocean rolling swell but I like the footwork and carving the board. I’ve been on some 16’s and they turn OK, it’s just another step to do.

My B17v2 has got hardly any 'deadwood' but the F16 has loads and yes - it has a similar LWL to a 14....

I'm always on offer to test out the prototype :D

Yes, longer boards can be narrower. Couple of reasons, but if you consider the buoyancy of the rail in isolation, and think of it in simple terms, length directly multiplies width. There's no leverage benefit though. Added width gets multiplied by length, but also by the added leverage of being further from the roll center.
