Sweet right.. Steep enough and consistent.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Looks like a great wave... pretty cool to see it filmed from behind!

My buddies Wes and Bwana spent a winter in the Canary's in the very early 70's, on a round the world surf trip.

It was the great unknown.... no one to ask, no info... just drive around and search.
They got into some pretty big stuff over there (good surfers + crazy as bedbugs)
Every break was a risky leap into the unknown.

They saw amazing potential in those island. Apparently they were right!

:o Great video, and excellent music!

But I have to say, at 46 seconds, the SUP surfer plows right over a prone surfers head. I don't know about you guys, but in my book, that is NOT COOL.  Too much chance of seriously injuring someone, and lots of options to avoid that.

Your thoughts?

Pretty careless. He probably initially thought he had the speed to clear the prone surfer, which he did. I think the tail slide slowed him more than he expected and left him with his back to where he was going. You could tell he was caught off guard. I wouldn't try any kind of move until I clear by either dropping below him or just holding a high line. I hope he apologized. I bet there was some damage the the prone board too.

Yes... it was avoidable...

and it's easy to place responsibility on the rider, however in my book, a paddler should never interfere with a ride. If I am in the way... it is MY fault.

Paddling out, My options are to:
paddle around the break
Paddle into the whitewater, so I don't get in the way
or, if it goes bad:
go under (I am safe underwater)

The rider in this case was not as aware as he should have been, and had to high jump over the paddler...

but... a good ride was interfered with by the paddler.

Let's not assume the heat simply because it was a SUP

Bottom line: Mariners Law
When the burdened vessel does not give way, the vessel with right of way, MUST take all actions to avoid a collision

so yeah... don't run people over  :)

Errors happens far to often with all surf vehicles... not just SUP
