Back in Da Hood
« on: May 05, 2016, 02:21:08 PM »
Okay, I haven't quite shaken off Maui yet, but I'm learning to use articles again, and I'm trying a few adverbs. By the time November rolls around I might venture forth with a gerund and maybe an infinitive or two.

What a pretty place. My shop is still a mess and there are thousands of projects waiting for me. Overwhelming today, so I'm just going to go lay down or something. Nice to bump into Admin and Chan along with grandson CarSeat when we blew off our resolution to eat healthy and went to Egg River for breakfast. That didn't last long.  I think it's a new record--about seven hours. CarSeat clearly didn't trust me, kept a watchful eye on me as long as I was close by. Smart kid.

Looking forward to a great summer.

Welcome back Pono. I hope you brought some wind with you, it's been a little light so far this year.

Hood River is wonderful.

I got engaged on the Hood River Railroad 27 years ago.  I will be back at some point.

And Maryhill peaches are heavenly.

That was a nice surprise.  Not healthy?  Tell me they didn't confuse your organic egg white Omelette, dry wheat toast, and black coffee for someone elses order again.  PS: it would be great to have both of the Babcock boys in HR this summer.

Yes, dry toast (but not necessarily wheat) is the hallmark of a nutritious meal:

I knew that, and figured that's probably why you ordered the dry toast.

Actually I had the smoked salmon benedict, which is exactly like dry toast except for the home-smoked salmon and the homemade spicy hollandaise.

Wow, you are really going to get soft back there.  :'(

I'm heading to the west side to search for surf. Supposed to be small, waist to chest if really, really lucky. It is glass, however. Almost called you but then remembered, you aren't here. Too busy speaking good english and eating like some sort of deposed monarch. Fine. Carry on with that.

If you get homesick, take a look at the M2km forecast for tomorrow's race. Looks like one of those horrible Kihei races we paddled the last couple of years. Oh, and let me know if I should take my saw out to your place and grab a couple of banana stalks. I don't want to get shot or torn to pieces by pit bulls and attack centipedes. I think I'm going to switch from SUP to one macanu for the race. At least it will be over sooner that way.

Not dry toast?  Well, salmon just puts you in a different Dan Ackroyd movie.  I hope you were wearing cargo pants if there were leftovers.

Well, that was fun.  I hope you were not fond of Roosevelt/Arlington, because they blew away yesterday.

I didn't go yesterday. Should have, the swell was awesome, but I was freezing just looking at the water. I did two stints in the OC6 this morning as penance and to get my body back into cold weather mode. My feet are frozen.

I surfed head plus 000's (quadruple over-gregg) in the morning - all the biggest waves were close outs, two turns max and run straight to avoid getting hammered. Boyum called while I was driving home and I loaded up my Bullet as soon as I got there and repurposed my mission for a downwinder. Headed straight to Makena. We went up to the macanu club and launched in drizzle and clouds but then had one of the best runs over there ever. Seriously. Blowing solid high 20's to mid 30's and absolutely amazing swell, not giant but so catchable, linkable and surfable. Direction was perfect.

Two things missing: Pono Bill and the lifeguards scrambling to escort the finish. I'm trying to make you homesick. Cold is for kids, not 'mature' paddlers. We're here if you feel like coming back. Hahaha
