So what's the take-away... that power boaters are idiots?  I already knew that...

These fools saw a woman struggling in hypothermic waters, and the extent of their efforts is, they tried to throw her "a rope"?
How far can you throw a limp rope-end??  My guess, 8-10 feet...

Sorry, but if I'm on that boat, I say "F it", tie the rope around my waist, and jump in w/ a PFD.
Then again, I know how to swim and took basic lifesaving back in Boy Scouts...

(Conclusion:  powerboaters suck.  ??? ???)

Nah. they freeze up, like everyone else. we're civilized people. death doesn't happen to anyone we know in any way we experience. they don't know what to do. You can't blame them unless you've done much better in a similar situation. and very few people will. we call people heros when they simply know what to do and don't lock up solid.

Very sad. She probably thought this looks fun. It helps knowing what the risks are.

+1 on the powerboaters.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.
