There are tons of good instructional vid's on vacuum bagging so start there.

But you need to apply steady vacuum during the process so your vacuum cleaner is not the right tool for the job.

It can be done with a large heavy duty Shop Vac..used one for many sandwich sailboards. I would clean the inside of the vac spotless and leave the filter off. Keep an eye on it though, the cord can get hot....and if it dies in the middle of the operation you will have a wad of cash in a heap at the side of the road for the trash man to pick up.

I used the biggest Craftsman shop vac and it would pull enough vacuum to suck a pucker in the sides of the tub. By the time you tone down a dedicated vacuum pump to where it's not sucking too much resin out of the laminate, your not too far off from the practical vacuum your getting out of a shop vac...and the volume of air it's pulling make small leaks in the bag not as critical while your hunting them down to plug.
Optimal no, doable? Definitely!

Hello Arany-

Are you deciding between:

peel ply which is the treated woven cloth that pulls out more of the excess resin and leaves a rougher surface so the next layer sticks better

...or...

perf ply which is like a soft plastic sheet (what you call mylar?) that has small holes every 12 mm or so and does not let so much resin leave so it is more smooth almost like a fill coat?

Enclosing a picture.

For 50% cloth 50% resin hand layup ratio:
Weigh your trimmed cloth and make that same weight mixed epoxy.
Apply, laminate. Then make a little more to finish the edges if needed.

Please keep posting the pictures, it is nice to see it come together.

Dude...that's a tiny vac to try and pull off a vacuum bag job on a SUP. Earlier in the tread when I said it was doable with a Shop Vac I was talking about a big shop Vac of 5.5-6.5 hp... Like this one...it will just about suck the hair off a dog.

Not trying to be harsh about this but I wouldn't even consider using a Vacuum the size your showing in your picture to vacuum bag a fin, let alone a whole board. I know what it's like to try to adapt things to work in areas they were never designed to...I totally get it...but somethings you can only push so far... Try to find a more appropriate Shop Vac, better yet Vacuum pump, or you will be better off doing a good wet layup without a bag.
