Heading to SUP Fiji with the Sunova team

Friday I leave for Fiji to SUP with Bert Burger and some of the Sunova team. When I was having a beer with Tino here in San Deigo last year, he said he'd try to get me an invite. Not sure what I'm getting into, looks like its going to be me and 19 Ausies.  We're going to be staying at the Maqai Eco Surf Resort which is east of the northern islan of Vanua Levu( maqai.com ) for 10 days. Of cource I'm super excited.

Just got back from 10 days at the Maqai Eco Surf Resort (13 in transit) and I caught 3 waves. We had consistant 20 plus mph on shore winds with a lot of rain. One night we had a tropical storm pass thru and a couple of days after we left a cat 2 or 3 cyclone passed by. Buuuuuut, it was still fun. Got to spend time with Bert Burger, the mastermind of Sunova boards and drink some kava with a great crew of Aussies. The team riders and  most others fared much better than me, but they had to work really hard to get a couple of turns in.

The set up for surfing at the resort has great potential, but it is on the windy/rainy east side of the islands, so I'm not sure how many surfable days can be expected. We were advised that the week we chose would be the best and the locals said its never that bad for that long. The close-by village got flooded for the first time anyone could remember.

oh well, not the first surf trip with bad weather.

Oh geez, Tom.  Sorry to hear about the ruined trip.  You didn't miss to much here; lots of windy days, as well, but not that bad.

If you lived a long way from surf, I'd feel very bummed for you. Fortunately you live near the surf and the waves are pretty good most of the time:) Must have been a great party!

I bet it was fun to have some beer/board talk with Bert and the rest of the Sunova team. That will last longer than wave memories anyway
