I say go for the Wing. Bics are great boards. If size and durability are the main issue, and you want a flatwater board, try it. JimK's suggestion of the Bounce boards is good too, but I have no experience with them. (And won't until they build a 14' hull.)

I'm hoping to find a good deal on one.

The usual places to look for a good deal are Craig's List and Distressed Mullet. These are used, but you can get boards in pretty good shape. I have no experience with buying boats on eBay, but maybe some other people here can comment. Used boards are usually "pick up only" which means you need to go get the board. Sometimes a motivated seller will meet you half way on a sale. Retailers can usually ship, which is good but you'll usually pay more.

Paddleva has a decent price, but I'd really like to SEEone before buying.  I need to make sure there's room for my occasional sidekick----an 11 lb dog.

Something like this should be fine to accommodate an 11 lb dog.  And seems like a board that you can have some fun on.

Spirit,

the ONLY board that will hold up (construction and shape wise) to a dog (Claws) is the BOUNCE

I'm NOT trying to be pushy just honest

Hi, Jim-----thanks for your input!  My dog is definitely not a normal one-----on the kind of water where I would take her, she'd be fine on any board, I think.  She's a couch dog who is often forced to do "real dog" things, but nothing too dramatic.  She did fine on a Red Paddle Co board, too.

You'd be surprised at the damage a small dog that is scared (mommentarily) can do to a board...It only takes once
We get dog damaged boards all the time

Southport Rigging is having a sale on Bics right now. You can get your Wing 11' for $899.

Bic says that their EPS foam is watertight.  Is it true that, should a crack or something happen, the foam wouldn't absorb water?  I read a review where someone said their board now weighs "50 pounds".

Their foam is created from a mold rather than cut from a block, making it denser on the outside and less prone to taking on water.  It's also A LOT less wasteful than block cutting.  That's all I know about that.
Bounce does the same to their credit.

Thanks!  I would guess that they would take on water if exposed long enough, but I don't see how that would happen.  I was looking at a couple of boards in REI, just to see the construction---one was an Ace Tec, the other a Dura Tec.  The Dura Tec board had large dimples in it.  Can't think of what to call them...just a few cups, sort of, up front.  The Ace Tec board looked great, though.

As a 5'8" 150 pound Behemoth

I paddled PDLSFR's 11 footer. Stable, bulletproof, FUN, and no worries of any kind.

The vast number in rental fleets speaks volumes on their durability..

11 feet easier to deal with on land also.

Not as fast as a 12'6"; which is not as fast as a 14'; which is not as fast as an unlimited - WHO CARES! LOL!

Cost/Deals, lower threshold of performance than privately owned board have more to due with Rental Use than true durability of construction

Bic's take on water over time where it goes I don't know But we lived that nightmare years ago.

Do all boards take on water over time?  Bounce, Naish, Fanatic, Starboard...?
