Maybe this has been discussed before, but I don't recall.  I'm wondering what the main purpose of the carbon strip is?  I see you have no stringer.  Is the carbon a flex and stiffness thing, or is it an overall strength thing?  I guess perhaps limiting flex prevents too much flex and buckling and therefore also adds to the overall strength(?)

While we're at it, what's your foam density and layup on that board?

Thanks,
Peter

yea i do it just for a flex thing i fell it give it a little more spring back when you load it up. I have never done stringers i think because sups are so thing you get plenty of strength from that plus you don't get the stress point over it when the foam gives a little and can end up cracking the glass ether side of it. most of my boards are 1.5lbs i normal glass double six top and bottom with a patch although this one was only six and four on the bottom as i ran out of 6 and didn't want to wait for the new roll to turn up.

i had a quick paddle today on it although the waves were very average and lacking, stability felt good not as much difference as i thought there would be surprisingly. Definitely noticed it is slower to take off than the wider tail however it goes around the turns a lot more freely but there was a lot less drive but i was using the future stamps which are quite small rears to what i would normally use so will need to have another play with my normal fins which i should be able to do in the next few days. It would be nice to get the board dialed in asap so i can hopefully take it to SriLanka with out any worries that i have the wrong board but i don think it will take much.

First proper surf on the new board today and fairly pleased with it. The surf wasn't epic but a good shoulder to head and a bit, lefts and rights on a nice little reef. While it is definitely more rolley to stand on stability was good and not a huge amount different to my other 7'4 i think still having the relatively wide nose makes a big difference .  straight line speed on the flat is definitely down however it seams to get in to waves relatively easily. On the face it it actually surprisingly fast still and having the rounded tail really makes it come around nice and smooth with minimum effort. The waves today were a little on the weak side with a strong off shore blowing them flat but i think this board should be nice when the do get a little more face to work with. i think there maybe a few tweaks i would try like possibly thinking the rail in the tail a fraction but its early days yet. The board will definitely be coming with me to Sri Lanka next weekend so hopefully i will get plenty more time on it out there and maybe a few pics.

Love the new one. Can't wait for the Sri Lanka trip report. Finished mine too and am happy with it but man the pop up is killing me. SUP is so much easier. (Need to update my build thread actually)

Interesting to hear that the stability is similar but your low volume stability theory also would explain some of that too. Great job, as usual.

Really nice job as usual, supuk. That little wave in Sri Lanka looked fun. Did you get lots of surf there?

Yea it was a fun little wave but very much drop one or two turns tops and then it went into a deep Chanel. We surfed just about every morning but then the wind came up about 11am and it blew 15-20knots all day on shore. We managed to get the odd hour or so last thing some days. Generally most of the breaks were super busy I could defiantly have surfed more if there had been the chance. Ironically the first weekend back home I probably had a better surf and was out on the water for 7hours solid saying that I would like to go back to explore a little more around the island as there is lots to see.
