If you're still in town, you need to get some grub at Smokin Bulls BBQ.  A spitting distance from Bird's Surf Shed.

lol...Judging by your user name your recommendation doesn't surprise me! Too bad I didn't know about Bulls earlier.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Where ya' coming from? Encinitas has a very cool vibe to it. Despite what this picture of the Cardiff Kook

would lead you to believe, Cardiff Reef has become a popular stand up surf spot.

If you like Tri-Tip, you need to go across the street to Seaside Market and get some "Cardiff Crack".

On the weekends they cook about 500 of them outside the market and sell sandwiches, or better yet go inside and buy a whole one to cook.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardiff_Crack

Crack is highly addictive... You've been warned. :P :o

I'm not sure of SUP rentals in Encinitas, but West Coast Paddle Sports is 10 or so miles south and will take good care of you.
You were def right about the cool vibe in Encinitas. I was really comfortable there. Not so much in Ocean Beach which I visited three times. Twice to hit Sunset Cliffs and once when exiting to drop off the board.
I wanted to decorate the Kook w/a paddle but it seemed so high up there!
The Tri-tip was so good I got it twice! The tee-shirt was GREAT! I bought it in a hoodie!
And my wife ran the Kook!

Thanx, Bean and bike for trying. I've had more trouble w/this video than any previous. Ditched the copyrighted jams for some more "Underground" stuff.

I just went through most of your trip pix, thanks for sharing. I grew up and still live in Ocean Beach, right up the street from Sunset Cliffs. Great town but it isn't what it used to be. Transplants have changed my town for sure. It used to be a hippie, nutty beach town. Now you are lucky to find a local there. I keep hearing that North County, Encinitas, Leucadia, etc. still have that small town vibe. I gotta get up there one of these days.

There's  still  plenty  of  hippies , long time  local  surfers , and  an  odd  assortment  of  newbs mixed  in  with  the  recent  transplants  here in  OB. We  haven't  become  the  yuppie  town  N country  has  become , so  we  got  that  going  for  us , which  is  nice.

Thanx, Burnside. I enjoyed my time in Ocean Beach during my visit. It's a pretty busy place for sure, prob due to it's proximity to San Diego.  Hippies , yuppies, long time  local  surfers, newbs, and transplants make it all quite interesting, Tom...and don't forget us visiting surfers!

Here're some surfers my cam captured while I was out. Didn't have the heart to ditch all these beautiful clips!

After riding a sup for 10 days in a row and with only 2 days left to my California winter trip I rented an 8'0" hybrid funshape. Who knew?!
