In this centenary year, to commemorate Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1915 intent to complete the first crossing of the Antarctic Continent, Henry Worsley is attempting the first ever solo crossing of the Antarctic landmass, unsupported and unassisted. Damn glad I read Bean's post or I'd have said nearly the same thing.

Very sad that he did not make it so close to the goal and ended up being airlifted out and not making it once he got to hospital. He was 55 years old and an inspiration to many. There's a great Obituary in this weeks Economist...
