Speed Coach attachment question
« on: December 27, 2015, 04:25:36 PM »
So Santa left me this Speed Coach for Christmas. I bought it used and it came with the big suction cup attachment. Used it today for the first time and other than being heavy it seemed to work fine. I had the lanyard strung through a deck fitting for safety. Any thoughts on best attachment method?
Also for what it's worth I am also a rower. I have a SpeedCoach with an impeller for my rowing shell. I was told by NK the. "Algorithms" for the rowing and SUP Speed Coaches were different. I used the SUP SpeedCoach on my rowing shell and it matched the older impeller unit perfectly. Go figure.

The new mount is gopro mount compatible.  The attachment plastic is so cheap mine broke before its first use.  I switched out to a real gopro mount and it works great.  The other problem was they sent a curved attachment that didn't fit my board.  I used a flat gopro one.

So should I use the NK mount or Go pro? I'm confused. Since my mount is stuck to this orange suction cup thing what pieces and from whom would I need to get?

I use a large GoPro surf mount stuck to the deck pad of my 17'4" Bullet.
I use the deck leash plug for the Speed Coach leash.
On my Starboard Ace & Sprint, Starboard were kind enough to include FCS plugs up front of the standing area which I use there, again with GoPro mounts.
SIC custom hand shaped 17' x 25.5" V3 Bullet.
NSP DC 17'10" x 26" .
Starboard Ace 14 x 25".
Starboard Sprint 14 x 24".
JP 10' x 29"
Starboard Pro 8.0 x 29".
Starboard Pro 8' x 29".

My Speedcoach is the last generation and has a simple 45% mount with a hole for a 1/4 -20.

My board maker put in an insert for 1/4 -20 up front on the deck.

I use the lanyard to another leash insert up there.

I leave the mount on the deck all the time and slide on the Speedcoach before a session.

Very convenient, but not angle adjustable.

Is the mount attached to the suction mount via a thumbscrew?  If so, you can buy one of the go pro mounts and replace it.  These parts would work
http://shop.gopro.com/mounts/replacement-parts/AGBAG-001.html#/prefn1=gp_itemType&prefv1=Mounts&start=1

You would only need the receiver part (the part that sticks to the board) and the removable mount part (the part that engages the receiver) but I cant remember seeing them individually.
