Really Good Sale on Riviera Paddles
« on: December 17, 2015, 06:02:10 AM »
I have no special interest in the company, but damn they have some good discounts on Riviera's latest SUP paddle lineup. Discount ranging 15-45%. I picked up the Vantage Carbon series paddle which was 45% off for a total price of $215. Reg price for paddle is $399. I might get the Riviera Bump.

I think overall they have a bigger blade than most people use these days. That might be why they're on sale. I've never liked their blade shapes.

Don't know if it makes a difference, but they have two sizes 8 and 8.5. My new Riviera paddle flexes pretty decent for me so far.

I saw that.

The 8.5 is 116 sq inches and the 8.0 is 110.

110 is usually the large size for some companies if they make them that big at all. With Riviera it's their small size.

NICE! I demo-ed a Rivie paddle in some decent surf and although the square-ish blade shape turned me off initially I was more than surprised at how well the blade cut the water. Not sure if the one I used was the 8 or 8.5 or what model it was though. ANYWAYS....as soon as I saw this sale my inner impulse buying dude took over, mostly because I was drooling over the camo paddle in a shop this summer and it was NOT under $300US! So it's a done deal. $399.00 is the price off the Rivie wesite...$219.00 is def worth it for a new motor!
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Impulse dude came out of me too when I saw price. I was kinda skeptical of website but did some research before order and found no issues with the company. No shipping updates from company after order (beside processing update email). It was delivered to me in about 10 days, so company is legit.

cookie--i like camo--but i lost a paddle in big surf--that camo would be very hard to see while getting slammed in the work zone, looking for a paddle--i'd spray it orange or something

Good point, eastie! I will now for sure put some yellow elec tape on it! Check out the frontside right bomb I wrecked on in June at 01:30 in this vid. When I surfaced from that beast my paddle was like 50 feet out to sea! That was one GNARLY wipe, man!

nice--love the slomo--i went over the falls in big surf with big wind and current at a Point in new england ive seen you pictured at--saw the paddle 50 feet from me right smack in the work zone--tried to get to it--got halfway here and got slammed hard, popped up and it was gone, never to be seen again---i use yellow and orange electrical tape now--with with my ph number and "return for reward" sharpied on the blade--aesthetically nauseating, but could get my paddle back if it happens again

not sure had i seen it again, i could have gotten to it--maybe with fins i could have swum into the work zone, but with a board leashed to me and no paddle, i gave up fairly quickly--looked out from the cliff with binos, but it was a cloudy, snowy, dark day, and the charcoal color of the kenalu carbon was impossible to see--expensive let go

Picked up one called the R9 Accelerator <$200.  Light as a feather but had a wide, bag-a-Chit-sitting-on-a-table shape.  Put it on the grinder, cut it down to 8.25" and rounded it out to look more like a Methane.  It's got a nice thick shaft, very comfortable handle...  Excellent paddle.  Here it is..

That's the way to do it.

Cut the blade down to any size and shape you want and make it totally custom.  8)

Mind you guys... I would not have done a re-shape on a $400 paddle. I  found another brand I really like also: Werner. I got a deal on a Grand Prix.

I was put off by the demo-dufus they use in their videos vs. a real guy like Jim Terrell of Quickblade but this also is a great paddle.  'Got a really nice non-slip shaft, comfortable handle. I have this and a KeNalu for flatwater.. the Werner is much better balanced with a better handle, but the big Nalu blade is really nice to tug on.

Paddle arrived in a HUGE box via FedEx. Hard to believe it was free shipping. Only took 5 days from CA. One nice thing is the handle is NOT attached so cutting it down to a surfable size will be a breeze. Looks like the sale is still on. The "Branch" series look really nice. Low key wood grain graphics.
