Argggg! Stupid little fall with a bad result.

I used to be decent at the classic longboard dismount as you describe. A SUP isn't really great for that, and you'd like to finish a wave standing anyway. Surfers have the simple advantage of already laying down as they get to the beach. You can certainly do that too, or Pocahontas your way for the last ten yards. My wife has never fallen off a SUP board. First, she doesn't do it often, and second, she can drop to her knees so fast it's simply astonishing. No wobble, no hesitation, the sight of the smallest wave on the surface and bam! Down and braced. I can't do that, but you could try it.

I do manage frequent Mr. Smooth exits, but I've learned to never take it for granted. Rolling up and down the beach, tangled in your leash, trying to find your hat and keep the board from hitting you is always one ill-timed wave away.

Maybe every 25th or so dismount is a Mr. Smooth, but only if I can see smooth sand and the shore break is non-existent.  It still feels like I am doing something unnecessarily risky, though.

I prefer to entertain the shore dwellers with slipping, sliding, falling, rolling, flopping to my knees, flailing and tiptoeing across the reef.
