That's very interesting, Big, after your SCA.  I am not sure I would want to be on all those meds, either.  Big Pharma wants EVERYBODY over the age of 50 to be on chronic meds, they militate hard for it and try to get the docs in line as well to push and prescribe.  They have even militated with funding of the research white coats to change the standards on testing to promote the use of more chronic meds.

Icky medical economics.

My neighbor is also a fan of medical marijuana i.e. the caps and oral kinds for his various pains.

Saw my doc again today.....current pain is from the L4/L5 facet joint. Getting a shot a week from Thursday. Hopefully this will do it. He seemed pretty confident that he can get me going again . Going to be doing some PT as well with a well regarded local guy that focuses on sports injuries. Fingers crossed this is it for awhile.

There's that David Leaf Chiropractor down there, supposed to be good, or at least he was recommended to me although 20 years ago.

I think you could save money and have better outcomes if you walked. There really is no substitute for walking. And lots of it. We've been been doing it for thousands of years. Weight bearing exercise. Simple. 3-4 miles a day. It truly is THE best thing you can do for your back.

Saw the PT for the 1st time today. He was very puzzled by how the pain is expressing itself until we did some testing. All of the physical things wrong with my back are on the left side and he doesn't think the pain isn't being caused by the facet joint on the right. He thinks its the sacroiliac joint and that my paddling technique or lack thereof may be part of the cause. Back extension is when the pain is at its most intense....he pushed and prodded various spots while I tried extending....(damn PT HURTS!!!).....when he opened the sacroiliac joint the pain almost disappeared and I was able to extend. He asked me to explain my paddling. I've always been a right sided paddler. I can go straight for long distances on my right side...switch to left and I instantly start to turn right. My right side is also far stronger. The result is that I've always weighted my right foot and paddled probably 5-1 on that side. Multiply by 10's of 1,000's of strokes over the last 8 years and you can see why he suspects it might be related. So in addition to the PT twice a week and home exercises he wants me to focus on technique to balance my paddling. I may have to go goofy for awhile. I will be back to full on kookdom as a goofy...I'm so righty I can't see left.

That’s a great idea of trying to surf goofy foot. You should give it a shot. Very few people can go switch foot with ease.

Jeff Clark comes to mind as one of the best.

When I first started to try to alternate which foot was forward, it felt very awkward paddling different than I used to surf.  Now, most of the time it doesn't matter, even when the water gets choppy.
Don't give up.  You will get it.

I'll work my way up to surf....going to take awhile I think. Some cruising with my wife in the plans for this weekend, going goofy will match our speeds better as a side benefit. I hope this change in technique works, nice simple fix that will be fun to work through, it would be pretty cool to be switchfoot.... :)

stoney--make a goof-board (that'll take you about 10 minutes) and work it switchfoot--has helped me much, tho i used to skate switchfoot in pools and pipes a lot back in the day, so i had a good start

i now paddle in goofy when paddling with my left hand into lefts--so much better--i do a quick switch on the drop, and occasionally remain frontside

the more i switch around, the better it all feels

Good grief i can hardly walk. The PT has done well to help relieve some of the SI joint pain but he has me using a roman chair and that is killing the all the lower back stuff. Day after seems the worst. This shit sucks.....still a long way from doing much.
