Steroid injection and drained the cysts (there are two). Feeling pretty good 36 hours later. Still a slight bit of weakness in the legs, especially if I'm on my feet too long, but at least the excruciating pain in my back is gone. Hopefully there is some continued improvement. Time to start working out now. I'm going to focus my workouts on flexibility and some strength training...and lose weight. I figure if I lose 60 lbs or so that will take 30+ off my lower back and help some with inflammation. I'll start back on some short paddles and maybe some small kine surf hopefully next weekend. Doing this years CCBC is doubtful but one way or another I'm going to do the 10th anniversary in 2017.

Great to hear that dude, it will take some time for the nerves to calm down and heal after that pressure, but at least you know definitively what the problem was.

Shit!....pretty sure the damn cyst must be filling back up. Same damn symptoms anyway. Getting very tired of Dr's offices.

That kind of stuff is rarely one and done, but the prognosis is better than a long list of much nastier stuff. Keep at it bud, you've dealt with worse and came back swinging.

Another shot next Thursday and a surgical consult in the works. Not digging the idea given the family history but if they can remove the cysts without screwing with too much else....? :P

Good luck Stoneaxe.  Hopefully they can take care of it for good this time and have you ready to go in time for the warm weather.

You guys are in trouble if I'm inspiring.... :P

I actually feel good enough (with a little help) to go out today so I took the day off from work and I'm headed to Newport. No idea how long I'll last but I need to feed my soul a bit.

Stoney I was eyeing the Cam trying to see if it was you out around 1pm, looked like 2 SUPs and a handful of proners on some small but fun waves, I almost snuck out of work to blast down around 2:30 but it looked like everyone bailed.

I got there around 2:00....:)

I should have gone earlier from the sound of it. Met a couple of guys that said they had talked to you and MrBig last week. They said it was clean offshore to no wind from when they got there at noon until 1:30. Exactly opposite of the forecA I was going by. BTW....how the fuck do all the weather and wave sites say its 10mph offshore when I'm standing on the beach watching folks fly a kite in south winds at 15?

Still had some fun....fed my soul a little anyway. Choppy and chest high at best but some long rides. I felt like crap and knee paddled for most of the time on the paddle outs to save my strength. Head was spinning a lot so I sat or laid  down between the bigger sets. Once I was on a wave all was good though. Only one wipeout and that because a bigger wave caught me a little unready and I pearled. My surfing felt surprisingly good.

I took it easy, maybe 10 or 15 waves in 2 hours but all were pretty good. I'd wait to see Tuck's go off and get up and wait for it to hit the beach.  Fun afternoon.

Glad you got out!
I'd still encourage you to check out a tai chi class to get your strength and balance back. It's really gentle but will improve your proprioception and balance, you're already a big monkey and don't need any more strength, but being good on your feet will go a long ways. I know there's no tight knit yoga pants and it can seem or be a little kooky, but if it helps keep you rooted to the board like an eagle grabbing a big fish it's all worthwhile.
