Aloha Punta Cana - did a day rental with them in June, really nice couple, highly recommend. They have waves (although it was choppy, disorganized due to onshore wind) and some flat water yoga as well.

ffc... Please report back the lay-of-the-land.  I just found that Frontier has a decent schedule and rates from Philly.  ..and they carry boards.  (done Cabarete a couple of times, but no simple carrier options to there or Aguadilla, PR for me)

I remember that video Julian ..some of the prettiest waves I have seen.  Sadly, I am not remembering even looking at the water 'till about 11am when the wind came up, the times I was in Cabarete.

Was this on the reef outside kite beach?  You'd see some kiters and poleboarders working the outside but I had well enough inside.  Riding horses in the morning we'd go west to the surf beach ..then the NUDE beach. (strangely the horses would slow at about that point..??)

I can get into Punta Cana cheap-n-easy ..but are there similar exposures/bottoms/reefs there vs Cabarete?   Aguadilla (PR) is another option.   Nice to see those perfect slides again. I'm sure you can still feel them.

Green Water Sports - Whenever I see video or photos of DR it looks like there are lots of offshore reefs along DR's north shore. Is that true? And if so, are a lot of those reefs uncrowded and sup surfable like the one you guys were sup surfing at in the video?

Much of the coast has outer reefs. The best ones to surf as far as I know are in the kite beach area. Other breaks are beach breaks or reefs breaks but on shore, no channel between. Kite beach is hardly ever crowded, a busy day is 5 SUS and you can always move up and down to find an empty peak.

Thanks. A few questions for you please.

1) Were you sup surfing at kite beach in your second video?
2) What time is it usually too windy to surf on the north shore? Do they get an evening glass off?
3) Does it blow all year on the north shore?

1) yes
2) supposed to be around 10-11am but recent winters have been windy, this one less so, but by 9am it can be 10knots+ already. Kite beach picks up wind earlier than the usual surf spots. No evening glass off, wind blows until just after sun down. It is best to go at sunrise.
3) summer is windy, less swell. Winter is swell, less windy... In general...

Nice videos Green Water Surf...I cannot believe the number of surfers in that video...wow have things changed since I surfed and windsurfed there in the late 90s. There would be 2-3 surfers out at  Encuentro ...times have changed.

Hey have you ever surfed Playa Grande?  I have seen some really nice photos of surf there, but the times I checked it it wasn't breaking.

Where are you located? I am in DR a couple times a year for work

I'll be at Amber Cove, about 6 miles west of Puerto Plata on Tue. Dec. 22. I have a SUS lesson lined up at Cabarete with Audrey with Vela. I need to find a way to get from Amber Cove to Cabarete. Are there safe taxis I can get at Amber Cove at 8am? If so, is that the best way to get there? Any idea of the cost? Thanks.

I have not surfed Playa Grande but I hear it is good when the usual spots are closing out.
Business based out of Miami, but in Cabarete a lot. The beauty of online stores.

Nice, Audrey is a good paddler, she charges every day. Taxi should be fine, not really any other options. No idea on cost but Audrey should know.

ya internet really makes the world a lot smaller.  it's made my business a lot more manageable and international phone bills manageable

I hope to catch Playa Grande on one of the classic days I see and hear about.
