Southeast weather and flood firsthand reports?
« on: October 06, 2015, 05:36:37 AM »
Anyone here a victim, or a witness to the horrible stuff going down with storms and flooding in the southeast?   Zoner thoughts and prayers go with you all.

I'm on a barrier island just above   Charleston, SC.  We had  lot of road closings,  lots of beach erosion, beach access paths closed.  Mostly inconvenience here, tho people not far away have had serious problems.  Just back from my morning reconnaissance bike ride, all the roads are open today, still some water on the road.  People have surfed and SUPed just about every day,   city services are back to normal today.

Downtown Charleston has been a different story but you  can get that from the national news.  Yesterday I had to meet a guy at a restaurant because roads to his house were inaccessible.

Here's a few links. Hope I'm linking them right.

I'm on James Island, across the river from the Charleston Peninsula and adjacent to Folly. There was flooding in the normal flood-prone areas, but I did not see anything like what's going on in the upstate with dams breaking, etc.

The good thing about flat land is you don't have the elevation changes where flash floods are a huge problem, etc.

There were definitely a lot of road closures and bad areas, but the main travel arteries were fine this morning.

Really good surf Sunday afternoon too, but then for some reason Folly closed to non-residents? Headed back out this afternoon hopefully.

I have a joke with my wife that anyplace we visit, or think we might retire, we are the harbingers of doom, because disasters seem to stalk the spots.

A couple of years ago, Charleston was high on her list of potential retirement spots to the point of obsession, now it's swamped and flooded.

She seems to like Santa Cruz, in spite of it's being overrun with addled liberals, so she hasn't mentioned elsewhere in a while.

Santa Cruzens are so spoiled weather wise, they can't tolerate the slightest variations of temperature, and my wife is no different now.  I told her she would have to undergo a massive re-adaptation for the weather anywhere else, much less the  muggy South.

Beautiful! dry day here today SupCheat.

Of course, we need rain - we're in a drought -
- and, across the country, they are being flooded.
