Epic San Francisco Bay Downwind 30-40mph Video
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:42:50 PM »
Hi!  We had one of the windiest days of the season on Saturday, wind was steady at 30 plus with gusts as high as 40.  Best day we've had out there, super fun and biggest bumps I've seen in the bay.  I've been working on a carbon fiber camera mount and this is the first time I've taken it in strong winds, I'm stoked on the light weight and how stable the camera is.  From the parking lot to driving and sitting in some bridge traffic seeing all those bumps it's the most excited I've been on surfing in a long time.  All in all it was an epic day, I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching.  ;D

Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Wow!  Nice job... Both on the downwinder, and the video..  Looks like you've taken a cue from DJ,  which is a good thing in every way.  I love how the Zone has inspired downwinding all over the globe... And how everyone is sharing.   8)
It ain't over until the fat board sinks....

Thank you and I agree completely, sharing is the most appealing part of downwinding for me, I love going with family and friends and that there are enough waves for everyone.  :)

Clay,
Looks great!!
Where did you put in and then take out?
I have done Coyote point to Foster City, which was inspired from my windsurf days.  6-8' waves in the channel under the SM bridge, on an ebb tide and 25+ gusts. A fun DW, but short.  Easy to caravan cars without having to cross a bridge.

Thanks!  Yeah the peninsula looks and sounds awesome, glad to hear you're out there on a SUP.  I want to do coyote to Alameda this winter when we get some howling storm winds.  I did a really short test run last month and the potential seems fantastic!

For this video we put in on the north end of TI and got out at the Emeryville marina public boat ramp.

Yo eastbound!  Definitely a remote control plane, dog sticks with the plane and had one of those electric collars on so maybe both is the correct answer?  I crack up everytime I read your zone name, I'm reminded of that kenny powers - out for a sponge video, is that where the name is from?

Pretty cool and it looked like you had a few other brave souls with you.  Nice vid.  What's the predominate wind direction when it gets over 30?    How was the bay when you went in?

Thanks headmount, yes went with my brother in law and a friend.  In spring and summer the wind is NW, in the winter we get storm winds that are SE-SW.  I'm not sure what you are asking, the water was a little cooler with some wind chill.  With the strong winds boat traffic was nil, we had it to ourselves.
