Windows 10
« on: October 04, 2015, 10:56:33 AM »
Any of you PC users upload it yet?
I've got this free upgrade link that came with an update about 2 months ago but haven't clicked on it yet.  I need some feedback first, I'm using Windows 7 and I have no real problems with it, so I'm hesitant.  I know updates for W7 won't continue forever, maybe one more year or something like that, and W8 is crap, and there is no W9.
So any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.
It takes a quiver to do that.

It's ok. Slightly different startup format. I've only run it for a few days so I haven't really used it enough to give a good review. Supsurf-chick runs it. She's a professional writer and is impressed so it must be pretty good.

Upgraded to it when it first came out, nice to use, no problems either.   I haven't had to try it, but apparently you can downgrade back to Win7 for 30 days if you need or want to.

Windows 10 is good.  I ran the upgrade at work and it was painless.  I also upgraded my parents and they jumped smoothly from Windows 7 to 10 (that's a good litmus test for ease of transition from the user perspective).

At home, I had an older Sony Vaio laptop.  Sony sold off Vaio and they are missing the necessary video driver updates so the screen went extremely dark with Windows 10.  I used the roll-back feature to get back to Windows 7 and it worked like a charm.

Be careful with the final config confirmations with the upgrade.  Choose "custom settings" so you can turn off all the "send my data to Microsoft" stuff.

We've been running 10 since release and it is awesome.  Best OS yet.  Office 2016 is great as well (both Windows and Mac versions).  El Capitan seems solid and maybe a bit faster than Yosemite.  Downloaded that this AM.

Wow, much better responses, I did a basic web search a couple of weeks ago, looking for the same, but got opinions that were all over the place.  I had a feeling that there were some agendas behind some of those opinions, so I considered it very little help.
Not here tho, I choose to believe, it has to be better than a bunch of complete unknowns from all over the world wide web,,,,,,, right?
It takes a quiver to do that.

I  upgraded  on  my  laptop  from  8.1 and it was a  non  -event ,  which  is  good .  Not  sure  yet  if  I'll  update  my  wife's  PC from  7. I'm  afraid  some  of  her  software  may  not  be  compatible .  With  8 there  was  a  program  that  would  tell  you  what  would  not  work .

Satya Nadella is one impressive dude.  He is making all the right moves in terms of software, hardware and cross platform integration.  With all the Jobs movies and backwards looking that is going on this guy has quietly steered Microsoft into the passing lane and hit the gas.

I thought Microsoft was going to annual subscriptions on software, like they are with Office 365.  I just received the free upgrade notice and was concerned that I would have to pay up each year for it.  Any thoughts?

It is free forever on most computers as long as you upgrade July 29 2016.

"Microsoft has previously said this Windows 10 upgrade will be “free for the first year.” This means that this free offer lasts a year — from July 29, 2015 to July 29, 2016. You have a year to get your free upgrade. If you don’t upgrade by July 29, 2016 and try to upgrade on July 30, Microsoft won’t give you Windows 10 for free.

If you do upgrade within the first year, you get Windows 10 for free, permanently. You don’t have to pay anything. Even after it’s been a year, your Windows 10 installation will continue working and receiving updates as normal. You won’t have to pay for some sort of Windows 10 subscription or fee to continue using it, and you’ll even get any new features Microsoft adds."

I am always afraid to use a new Microsoft OS until V2 comes out.  Seems like they never seem to get it right on the first try.
