not really sure I like to ride quads though and most times I like to experiment with my fins  Right now I am loving the  fcs 3 d  redtip and wing fins  I fee like they hold better and give more drive and are more stable just standing. I recently swapped in 2 6.5"  red tip 3d fins center fins to my side boxes. The were awesome. but not so sure about the foil  these are full foil though both sideshttp://www.bing.com/images/search?q=fcs+red+tip+3d&id=BFF7CA2454760E969DFC195AED91A0346CD60637&FORM=IQFRBA

That's a good question.  It would take somebody with experienced, sensitive feet to answer.

There was a lot of hype (a while back) about the rear fins needing to be single foil but I've been pretty happy with my GL1's (which are the double foil variety) when paired with my a 10' Icon which most closely resembles a McKee set up.  Maybe different on a board where the rear fins are closer to the rail and more affected by the directional flow from the front fins.

I doubt I could tell the difference. For my fin experiences, either good or bad, I would be hard pressed to technically explain. I'm just a dumb surfer.

When I checked all my quad trailers, two sorts of futures and BChambers, they are all foiled.

This is an interesting trailer I got from BC on a custom.  When I checked it out I found it was designed for a kite board. Works on my sup as well, couldn't say why.

Everything "works". take a look at what a wavestorm has for fins. J.O.B surfs them in Big Pipe. Tow in fins are often aluminum--thin sheet. No foil, and damned sharp. Ask Bret Lickle.

rear quad fins has to be 80/20

50/50 feels slow

I've also put one of those inside foiled fins as a trailer, and they are great for just going straight down the line but felt really odd when you turn.

80/20 feels right in between the two.

Now I only ride thrusters. Quads have too many variables, finding right fin, ect. My experience with quad felt too sticky. Perhaps I haven't found that right quad combo yet.

Thruster sets are cheaper, turns the board the easiest.

Gee, that's my experience too. And I don't think I surf well enough to really know. When I come out of turn with quads and get ready for the board to accelerate, it somehow doesn't. Feels like the tail is stuck or something. When I'm going up and down the face they feel good, and they seem to drive nice, but as soon as you turn straight and trim it feels like someone hit the back brakes. Might be the fins I tried. The best quads I've felt are the Futures Controllers on my L41. They don't seem to drag so much, and they feel "pivoty" in turns. I can really bang them around without losing the tail.

Fast, loose, and controlled.  A quad set up that turns great from the tail and nose rides in knee high to overhead.

It's not just about the single design element of the fins, but the gestalt that's created when they're placed properly with respect to the rest of the board's design elements.

the foil is there to  offset  the  toe  in, so if the trailing  fins  point  straight ,  then  they  should  be  double  foiled.

i put GL-1's on my pocket rocket and it made it suuuuuch a better more fun board in anything up to chest/head high.

The thuster set up felt like an anchor dragging after riding the new setup, and i didnt notice too much loss of pivot- (But it is a pin tail).

My L41 is crazy fast when I get the rail dug into the face of a wave. I assume my outboard fins are out of the water, so it's really more like a narrow thruster setup with a fin missing when I'm doing that.
