Jet Blue starting November 2015 ..Balto/Philly to FL
« on: September 21, 2015, 10:03:56 AM »
Before it was just you guys in New England that had access to Jet Blue, a carrier that would actually take our boards ..now we middle states get it.  It appears it would be $100 per leg but there are no restrictions on Length/Width, etc.. (weight: 100lbs...but who carries a BIC and two paddles?)

"The following items (surfboards) are excluded from the baggage weight and size limitations set forth above.."   (the limits are for folks wanting to take 100" TVs and the like)

I did not check baggage for Intl. flights ..but JB flys to San Jose Costa Rica from Orlando - the same place you will be able to get to from PHL and BWI...

Here's a copy/paste from Jet Blue that contradicts the $100 charge.

Surfing Equipment
What is accepted:

One surfboard per case; size and weight restrictions do not apply, except items weighing more than one hundred pounds (100 pounds) will not be accepted as checked baggage. We recommend that surfboards travel in a hard-sided (rather than soft-sided) case to prevent damage.

Domestic Flights:

Surfboards are accepted on domestic flights for a fee of $50 per board each way and will count as a checked bag. Excess baggage fees may apply.

International Flights:

Surfboards are also accepted on international flights for a fee of $50 per board each way and will count as a checked bag. Excess baggage fees may apply.

Surfboards are accepted to all destinations EXCEPT to/from Bermuda, Haiti, Peru, Port of Spain, *Santo Domingo and Santiago.

*Please note: Surfboards ARE accepted on flights to/from Puerto Plata, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

"all destinations" .. would seem to include Costa Rica from Orlando.

I have been told to always print the latest posting of an airlines' regulations in the event the person behind the counter has a hard edge for surfers.

For any airline that has curbside valet, ten bucks a bag plus $20-30 for the surfboard covers everything.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
