Nova Scotia SUP Stoke
« on: August 30, 2015, 06:38:26 PM »
Finally did the drive from New Jersey to NS. 16 hrs plus a stinkin' SOLID hour being held at the border crossing. We just stood around waiting for them to rifle through our vehicle but they never did. Finally they looked at our passports and said we could go. Only me and one buddy, not much of a crew which is the way I like to travel.
I was definitely STOKED on the place. Camped at Shubie Park in Dartmouth and hit several spots including Lawrencetown, Cow Bay, and Martinique. Only saw one other sup the three days there which was an inflatable that was racked and never got wet.
Can't wait to return for some more solid swell. But I can't complain, we did get some nice surf.
The Jet 1A shots are my freinds.

Water was NICE...Almost 70F. Fullsuit stayed in vehicle the entire trip

8'0" Assassin was the lucky board to go.

Awestruck by the VAST wilderness!

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Hey Bob, what's the name of the town with the gene pool that's about an eighth inch deep that all the Babcocks are from. I wonder if they have surf?
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Looks like an awesome trip. I'm going to head up even further one of these days and as Pono mentioned visit the homeland.

Speaking of which.....Bill...sheesh...it's in Newfoundland, Bay Roberts and NF does get surf but it's deep in Conception Bay and only open to the NE. North Atlantic storms though would throw some swell their way. I def want to visit someday. We have a 2nd cousin that used to be a curator at the Smithsonian that has a summer house up there on what used to be the original land grant to our ancestors. Most families had a cod salting area and water front farm back when it was 1st settled. There was no road in to the town until 1975. From Bay Roberts its only about 30 miles to the south coast of the Avalon peninsula where they get the best surf. Good thing is that you have NE, E, S and W exposures all within 40 miles so if there is any kind of swell from any direction there should be someplace to go. Bet there would be some awesome DW spots too.

Bring lots of rubber.

Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, what's the difference.

Targa Newfoundland is on my bucket list. It probably goes through Bay Roberts, but it's hard to see much at a buck fifty. One of the few places in the world that has such a WFO road rally that ordinary humans can race in.

I looked at some pictures of Bay Roberts. Geez, place looks bleak.

Bill,  Set your watch back 20yrs in NS ..40 in NFLD. Some of the most genuine people you'd ever meet there.. Tho' somewhat isolated, they still got TV news so they don't like Americans much.

I worked for a boat company in Cape Breton in the 70's, not an area if you've ever had a suicidal thought.  I saw weeks of low level, 100% overcast scudding by at 30kts.  It was like the end of the World took place some where west of us and was approaching rapidly.  Sailed it - never thought about surf then.

...and you'll need TR Spitfire or Ford Escort to fit in that race.

Nova Scotia is a beautiful province. Have been there two or three times, but that was many years ago and long before I was into SUP. Your pictures brought back many memories. Thanks for sharing.
