They always edit out the parts of video that show how the pro's deal with the paddle out on their super low volume boards and that photo is exactly why I want to see that stuff. One of the entries in the PaddleWoo video contest is Keiran Grant and you can see him doing a sinking duck dive thing like that. Very interesting.

Paddle out would be a lot easier/more enjoyable if I could do this...and not eat my board during the attempt

Oddly enough, I really like playing around in the wash. I'll surf a few waves and then spend some time playing in the wash -- paddling into it or parallel to it, it doesnt matter to me.  All fun.

I don't do that of course but I do try to slice through a bigger wave rather than pop over the top. Popping on big waves just blows the board back too much and I find myself tail down in the mush and wash on the backside. If you hit the wave and let the nose slice through the top couple of feet it keeps the board down. Do it perfect and get the board perpendicular to the point of the slice (push down as it slices through) and it actually drives the nose down into the backside and makes it stable as a rock....real easy to continue to put the pedal down. I hit a head high wave mid curl last Saturday about as good as I can do it. Almost felt like I accelerated coming through the wave it was so clean and effortless. I didn't of course but relative to not doing it right....... :P

So Awesome! Who is that? Did not even know it was being done!

I have found that on bigger waves rolling in I am better off not stroking through the white water but just digging then bracing.. letting the wave move under me (hopefully) towards the shore.. here I try to weight back foot, semi wheelie then weight front foot as wave passes under.(try). the paddle digs only to keep me equidistant from the beach.. hopefully.

When I try to stroke through the white water I have less control.
