bic deck bag
« on: August 03, 2015, 02:02:25 PM »
I have this BIC Ocean 12 board.

It has 4 small hook points that are designed for a bungee,  spaced 15" x 15".       BIC also makes this bag specifically designed for a 15x15 (click on "performance").

It's $60 at Amazon,  curious if anyone has one and can offer any opinions.  Or has other suggestions,  especially for less $$$.   I'm a beginner but starting to take longer paddles where I'd like to pack water,  food,  windbreaker etc,  safety equipment (I'm wearing an Onyx M-24 inflatable belt life jacket).

Seattle Sports makes a deluxe bag,  slightly different attachment spacing.

$60 doesn't seem to bad for that bag. It's only water resistant though you will want a dry bag too.

Shell is water resistant but specs say it has an "internal waterproof pouch for dry goods".  No idea how large.   Reviews on Amazon seem to suggest it's just a loose bag and not actually fully waterproof.

I use the Connelly mesh SUP bag on my M-14 which has a 15" X 15" tie down. I put dry bags inside it.

$20 - $25. Super rugged mesh.

I ordered the BIC bag from Amazon.   I asked BIC customer service if they had any photos of the interior but never got a reply.   Attaching some pics in case it helps others.

There is a small mylar compartment inside, I guess for keeping a can of soda?   Larger mylar bag (sewn in) with a drawstring and a removable 12"x16" approx dry-bag (seams taped).

As many of the reviews on Amazon stated,  the built in carry strap is pretty short (there is a zyppered compartment on the back to store the strap if you don't use it).

The cord loops I think are designed to attach (permanently with knots) to the board and then you redo the velcro each time to connect the bag.  The velcro attachment is actually doubled over on itself for security - it's not coming loose - but it's not exactly a quick connect/disconnect system.    I've not taken it out on the water yet but most of the reviews say the bag needs to be removed to carry the board else it's too front heavy.

There is a thin sheet of plastic inside to keep the dome shape.    The access zypper is the 'waterproof' style but for some reason the zypper starts about 2 1/2" above the bottom and ends 2 1/2" above on the other side,  so it's not actually a very large access opening.   Maybe this is by design so it's clear of any deck water??  but it's going to make getting the dry-sack when filled in and out more challenging.
