Super fun downwind run
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:15:50 AM »
Hello to all, few days ago the conditions were awesome for downwind paddling. The wind was gusting up to 40knots and i had one of the best runs of my life.

DK, That is one awesome run, and amazing conditions, well edited with good music (IMO). Some great linking around 3:40.. I just love when that happens. No wonder you say it was one of the best runs in your life..  Those are the types of conditions that we all dream about

Also the best start to any D/W video I've seen  ;). Next time show us the beach landing at the other end!

Nice! Reminds me of a good day on the Kihei run on Maui - it starts off small, plenty of wind but small wavelets, after a mile or two you are into 3+ foot swell and after 6 or 7 miles, you are into rolling, big windswell.

Looks like minimal paddling and maximum surfing. My kinda run too!

Nice looking conditions!

Now coldsup those are the type of conditions where the M-14s charge.  Less paddling -> more surfy planing!   :)

Yes, I am itching to try her out properly but we don't have a downwind crew together ....but getting there. I've just missed out on some really nice swell this week with a bad bronchitis type virus and tweaked my back too! Hope to get back in action soon. My guess is that I will be doing a few solo upwind and downwind runs in time but the M14 ( most likely me) struggles with small close wind swell......just not really had that glide yet. Maybe need to move forward a bit.

Coldsup - try when you can in 20-25 kts and that should do it.   :)

Great run, edit and groove.

Cold,
M14 handles short period really nicely. Watch carefully how Dimitris goes across the waves to get in the groove. Yes, the M14 takes off on plane easiest with you centered.

Nice run. From the swell shape it looks like deep water until near the end. Was that a big rock I saw sticking up just level with the surface near the end of the run?

The depth must be somewhere at 30 meters. It was a sea turtle at the end of the run.  :)
