visiting SF/SeaRanch area in Oct
« on: July 29, 2015, 08:09:01 PM »
I will be hitting NorCal for 10 days in Oct.
Flying into SF from Boston and driving north to Sea Ranch to visit family
Back to SF for a 3 night run with My Morning Jacket at the Masonic
Then 3 days wide open - most likely Yosemite.

Seeing Mavericks go off would be awesome and getting in some surf would be icing. Any consistent spots between SF and Sea Ranch? Rental places?

101 Surf Sports in San Rafael has a fairly large shop, that is more about boards than clothing.  I rented for a paddle this last monday.  Theeir rental fllet was interesting in the positive.  The board they rented to me was a SIC 14' x 28.5"
They do have surf style boards too.

Bolinas is worth a stop if there is a decent south swell.  Fun spot in west Marin county.  Mushy longboard wave that can get pretty good, and has the daily best surf report ever.

Point Reyes has some surf but it's a trek- about an hour drive from Hwy 1, then you've got to hike/paddle almost a mile south of the parking lot to the mouth of Drake's Estero; that's where the wave is good.  Then there's Point Reyes' beach - big gnarly beach breaks like Ocean Beach in SF.

Black Rock beach can be pretty good & it's in the Sea Ranch area.  It's a beach break with a lot of closeouts, but it can get good sometimes.

Waves everywhere here!!! Jeez!

Pulled into Sea Ranch yesterday. All the way up 1 all I saw was vacant beautiful waves. Same thing today. Did some family time with my uncle but scouted out a spot for tomorrow - Point Arena Pier. Has a couple of different breaks. Friendly wave. Calling for 4-6. Going prone on my cousins fun board. Haven't been prone in over 6 years and really have only surfed prone a total of 6 or 7 times but Im pumped for it.

God I love it up here amongst the trees, waves and stars!!
