Some board designs make you scratch your head?
« on: July 27, 2015, 09:33:43 PM »
I was just looking through CL and I came across this 'Racing SUP' for $299. Anyone know who Farley is?

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Maybe John from Cincinnati.
Seems strange enough.

That reminds me of those pictures of strange fish that occasionally are caught and photographed. Looks familiar but wait, the tail is the head and the head is the tail.. WYF. Where Y = Why.

Price is right. I think it's probably the famous Chuck Farley as in "Chuck You Farley"
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Looks like a copy of my copy of a 1940's kookbox made from the Tom Blake Popular Mechanics plans.

It would have worked if the keel were on the other end.

Tom Blake : Riding the Breakers on this Hollow Hawaiian Surfboard - Popular Mechanics Magazine July 1937 Volume 68 Number 1

For those of you not familiar with Tom Blake he was a Wisconsin haole that moved to Hawaii and gave us many contributions to surfing & paddling, like the fin. I saw another company called Bord in Newport selling SUPs on CL like this recently but I don't think it they did very well.

If you ever get down to SanO there is resident rat rodder/artist/regular at the Point who surfs a foam version of a Blake surfboard in full period garb and he rides better than 90% of the guys out there.

Obviously someone at Play it Again Sports is trying to sell a classic prone paddle board as a SUP. Who knows, the price of the board and popularity of SUP might just fool some noobie? I guess if you stick a deck pad on any board it becomes a SUP board.

I think it would. From either end.
