Infinity asym RNB (8'6 x 30, 118 L)
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:16:14 PM »
Last week, I picked up my Infinity asym RNB (8'6 x 30, 118 L). I had a few days on it while on vacation down in SoCal and really enjoyed it. I'll want some time on it (and new fins) before reviewing but thought I'd post a shot of it. I bought it large for my size (5'7, 145 lbs) and plan to use it in bigger choppier winter surf, or when I feel like gliding a bit.

nice! glad you finally got it, I know you've been waiting for awhile. Came out beautiful. How do you like the asym? I'm already thinking about my next RNB but this time an asym. That's definitely enough board for you, must feel very stable at your size.

Oh ya, it's plenty stable for my size.  Really comfy actually (which is what I was looking for with this one).  After riding a SIMS all winter, it was fun gliding into some waves and walking the deck a bit. Fills a needed slot in the work-in-progress quiver for sure.  Based on my few sessions on it, I really like the asym--a little bit of help on the heel side (and I can use all the help I can get).

Looks fantastic! Did you weigh it? I'd guess 15lbs without fins.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

Awesome! I demoed an 8-2 x 3 7/8 x 28 RNB last month with the jet tail and I struggled paddling it. It was a bummer that it was super choppy and the waves sucked the two times I took it out. How do you like it so far?

I've had a couple fun sessions on it (especially in some mellow surf at TM in Carlsbad when I picked it up), but I've been surfing quicker dumping beach breaks this summer that better suit my SIMS.  Once I get some running walls or bigger/fatter surf, I'll get a better chance to get a feel for this larger RNB.

I put together this set of pictures to highlight the asym shape.  I thought it offered a pretty interesting perspective.  From left to right: actual asym RNB, heel side shown on both sides, toe side shown on both sides.

Love the photo edit. It really gives me some thoughts on my next tail since I am a goofy foot in the land of the right point break.

Great photo edit. People often think of assy's as being just a tail treatment, but your photos show how much it is about the whole rail outline.

I was actually pretty surprised that some of the other features that I expected to be asymmetrical ended up being fairly symmetrical: rail shape, rail thickness and concave.  I talked to Dave about it when I picked it up.  He said they experimented with doing different rails on each side and twisting the concaves like Donald Brink often does but felt the RNB felt better keeping those fairly symmetrical.

I thought you were in Texas, so where is this "land of the right point break"?

Surf Africa, One cool looking sled. I assume Infinity will make one without the asym tail. Keep us posted on how it works for you..
