And I thought it was bad to get creamed by a wave.

Yeah I think those boats cost a few - but the crew on board are not paid a ton.  Most seem to do it mostly for the challenge racing in the open ocean.  Not many have rounded the Cape and raced about icebergs in the Southern Ocean.

Really quite amazing what some sailors are willing to endure.  All strategy tactics and being in the right place at the right time.  Huge work for the shore crew as well as one boat was literally remade after it blew out its stern on a reef.  The ones that sponsor the boats seem to be big business conglomerates.

Thought that the on onboard video coverage was pretty good.

The cost of the boats I imagine are in the millions.  The crews themselves are not owners (most aren't anyway) and are not necessarily rich.  I know some guys who crew on race teams and are far from wealthy.
