Robin Trower at Harrahs South Lake Tahoe
« on: July 01, 2015, 08:34:16 AM »
We were up at South Lake Tahoe, for the Race the Lake of the Sky race and I got a call from an old friend, who knew we were going to be up there.  He had 4 tickets to go see Robin Trower at Harrahs, on Saturday night.  I used to listen to Bridge of Sighs and Long Misty Days for hours in the 70's.  What a show!!  We had 8th row seats, right in the middle.  Robin Trower plays better than ever now.  Every song went into a blistering guitar solo and songs like "in the place", had long melodic guitar leads.  Absolutely one of the best shows ever.  Even my wife, who was never into the, as she puts it, dropping acid music, loved it.  Watching him be so into each note made each song personal.  He really poured his heart into that show.  As it was back in the 70's, he was backed by only a drummer and bassist, who also was the lead singer.  He didn't have the same voice as James Dewar (RIP) but still sounded great.

If you get a chance to see him, don't miss it!!

I always wondered about James Dewar's disability and early death, presuming like many others it was rock star syndrome with drugs and alcohol.  He actually suffered from a rare genetic condition that caused serial strokes and led to his demise.

Stone:  Went and saw Gary Hoey last night (Rams Head - Annapolis, MD).....GREAT seats and awesome show!  Big Trower influence of which he spoke of.

I suspect he'll be swinging thru the Cape if he hasn't already this spring/summer.

Peace.

Wow. Made me think of a couple other guys haven't listened to in ages and it seems I remember a Day on the Green years ago with Robin Trower, Mahogany Rush, and Pat Travers all on the same ticket but those concerts have kind of blended together somewhat but I think all three were there the same day.
(nope, looked up "day on the green", amazing internet. Says he did a show with Frampton tho and I pretty sure I wasn't at that one)

Haven't seen RT in years, but what a musician. I stumbled into a Peter Frampton show in Austin one night when I was visiting a client--probably AMD. One of the rare trips that I went on by myself. Usually the account folks wouldn't let me go on my own. They were always afraid I'd promise something impossible. After the meeting I decided to stay a night and hit some music venues. As usual, there was more great stuff in Austin on a random Tuesday than there is in Portland all month. I saw Burning Spear, some great local talent, and Peter Frampton playing at an outdoor barbeque joint, all in one night. Closed the places down, hit the sack at three AM and got on a plane in the morning for another meeting in San Jose. Crazy days.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I heard Procol Harum in Santa Monica in the late 70's. Trower was long gone i gather by that time.

Tickets were a struggle for me at the time, but it was a great live concert.
