Love the tail, reminds me of my old kneeboard. 26 inches...not even in my wildest dreams.  Your cutting machine is awesome too.

I love it. This last one I did is very similar in size and shape. Funny, I was just thinking of pulling up your Vanguard thread to see how it's been going for you. And I was considering looking up the fish shape you just pictured to consider a similar build...until I saw TW's new ride. That baby 7'5"ish by 26.5" ....sweet! Hey, who needs an original idea when you're surrounded by so much talent, right? So why the change to vector net instead of full carbon? As always, great stuff, Charlie.

And just for grins. From design to cut...how long? And do you still spend time with your girlfriend now that you have a CNC?  ;D

there were bits i liked about the vanguard but there were also things i didn't, id didn't have the get up and go that the fish does and I'm not super keen on the single con-caves i just felt i should stick with that design for that board back then. This one has been siting in the computer for quite a while now and only got around to cutting it last week. I can draw a surf board up quite quick now but i prefure to take my time and go back and double cheque things, its like hand shaping you always find things you don't see the first time. Race boards take a lot longer to get right espesialy copying old hand shapes it can take a good few hours as the curves get quite complex. There is only so long i can spend behind the computer so its not to bad i do have quite a few boards though that i have designed that i find hard to find time or money to build them. I have never done full carbon except one race board recently always just glass, the vector net i have just had kicking around for a while so thought what the hell, it looks cool but its a bit of a pain to lam and once i have used what i have i don't think i would get any more.

It's great when a hot coat comes out almost perfect! Once that was sanded and the fin boxes were in I place fins and tail pad on the board and instal the handle happy that the balance will not Chang much from now on.

Yeah, that's one smooth hotcoat. Great stuff! We'll be awaiting the ride report.  So have you reached your bottom on a surf sup? Width? Volume?  Will this be you? At this point I think 88 liters for my 80kg weight seems about it....unless maybe I distribute the volume a little differently. Let us know!

Yes tw I built my own machine last year. As far as size my yellow/orange fish just about keeps me on the surface probably with 2-3 letters to spare It was a hand shaped one so don't have any exact numbers for it. This is actually the first surf sup I have cut for myself so will be interesting to see how it compares. I will be geting it wet next weekend when we go down west for a comp.

UK has really changed my head about volume and thickness seeing his boards. I'm sure I'll be experimenting with smaller boards than I would have thought now.

That hot coat is sweet man. Thank you for your advice, getting to see your progress in person was really useful. Today I took mine almost all the way down to the glass and I'm gonna lay on one tonight. Hoping for something like yours.

forgot to say you will notice the holes in the masking of the handle, the air vent has been drilled at this point to let the board vent when i do the second part of glassing it over to prevent any build up of pressure and getting bubbles in the lam.

That vent trick is good. I just re-did the deck of mine and it's smooth and glassy. Ah, now just gotta get that bottom done and I can put some fins in it.

Keep this thread going man. I need to see some more fin installs before I do mine. ;)
