Going to Portland.....
« on: June 22, 2015, 08:01:37 AM »
...for my daughter's graduation.
I'll be bringing my Naish 14' Glide.
Would like to meetup for a cruise. Or would appreciate suggestions of where to go.
Thanks,
Bob

Drop by Gorge Performance on Macadam, and then put your board in at Waterfront Park and paddle around Ross Island. One of my favorite things to do is go around the right side of the island, then cut across to the marina and pull into the dock and meet up with the wife for some pupus at Newport Bay Riverplace Marina. There are better places food-wise, but no better places to sit in your boardies and take in Portland. Then paddle back up the city side of the river to waterfront park.

Or head upriver. You can go all the way to Willamette Falls, which is pretty cool though the currents are wacky as you get close to the bottom of the falls.

If you want something really restful, driving to Sauvie's Island and paddling the Multnomah channel is very peaceful--usually. Houseboats, trees, and slow current. You can paddle ten miles to Scappoose and get lunch at Rolandis on the river, then paddle back for a nice 20 mile cruise.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Bill--don't you mean Willamette Park?

Bob--my schedule has been totally messed up for paddling lately, so I'm not likely to be around.  But follow PB's advice about Ross Island and especially Gorge Performance.  Also take a look at Stand Up Portland on facebook--meetup group for paddling here.   If you're here Thursday you can paddle with Gorge Performance and Chuck Patterson.

Picky, picky. so I send him a few miles in the wrong direction to a park that you'd have to toss your board off the seawall and jump in the water--next to the sewer outfall. Geez.

Weirdest thing is that there are actually 2 Willamette Parks within a few miles of each other--one in Portland, one just south of Portland.
