Note to self (repeat often):  "WhatsSUP you should not be jonesing for one of these boards....Creek and others lead to down the path to the Allwave 9'5" which is a great board and you need to REALLY spend time with it to develop basic skills and become proficient on this fine board".....

Curse you Creek!   ;)

Whatz^ ;D ;D ;D
Please enjoy your 9'6... it is a wonderful board!
Don't let every new board turn your head.... wait until you feel a strong urge to move on.

It's a process.
The road was long from 11'2 x 36 Avanti.... to Allwave 9'6 then Allwave 8'10...... to 9'6 Prowave.... to 8'11 RAW
Every step required new skills and reaped big rewards.... I have enjoyed the journey immensely.

Now, at 67, I am on a timer.
If I want to achieve certain goals in SUP surfing (and I do) I need to go hard and fast.

Going to this board was a leap of faith and a serious commitment.
I knew I needed to do a LOT of balance work .... and lose weight to be ready for it.... to be honest.... I was more than a little nervous.

I'm making a video of the process.... the benefits have been eye opening... I feel like I have turned the clock back many years:)

Creek, will look forward to your video, but...
it doesn't include any scenes of you standing on the bathroom scale in your tightie-whities, does it?

That would not be "eye opening", ... more like "eyeball gouging:o :o

SJ: Yep...gotta listen that voice in my head!

Creek:  "Don't let every new board turn your head.... wait until you feel a strong urge to move on."   I hear ya....I've only got about 7-8 hours on it (AW) in small surf and its still very much a new toy to me and I feel like I've just scratched the surface of truly enjoying it and learning how to surf it.  Really looking forward to the progression video as well as others you post always fun to watch!

Great video, story and surfing Creek!
Does that board surf as well Backside as Frontside?
50 degree water.  No wetsuit.  Now thats motivation to stay standing ;)
Looks like the board works well in the transitions…like when you went over the breaking waves paddling out?
You have great balance…keep the stoke alive.

lopez.... it is very easy going over waves. The scoop in the nose lifts up over white-water very easily and is so thin that there isn't a lot of resistance.
The width of the nose gives added stability as the wave hits. I haven't had it in anything crunchy yet, but, so far, so good.

here's a few backside waves from another thread...it went great, I can't wait for some bigger waves.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"
