SOLOSHOT2 Hi Res Stills
« on: May 29, 2015, 07:24:41 PM »
Finally scored a camera controller module for the SOLOSHOT2. Bought a compatible bridge cam in the likes of a Sony Cyber-shot HX300 but it turned out to be a fail. It only shoots 10 hi res shots in 1sec or 10 low res shots in 5secs. First time out I only got one usable shot because I had it set on hi res. Second time out I set the cam to low res and it worked okay. But the shots are only 640x480 so I edited them to a 16:9/1080 orientation and lost a bit of res. Cam is already on ebay w/a few bidders. Ditchin' it for the Canon Power-shot SX50 which was my first choice anyways. It will supposedly shoot for as long as the SOLOSHOT is set for, which is either 15, 30, or 45 secs. At 5 secs the Sony Cyber is a tough shoot. There's a 3 sec delay b4 the cam starts firing off. With the Sony Cyber you have to be quick and keep in rhythm w/your paddling cadence while triggering the armband sensor since you have such a short shoot time.

They def look good but the problem w/the Sony Cyber-shot is shooting duration. At only 5 secs w/a 3 sec timer b4 shooting it's just not long enough to grab photos easily. The Canon Power-shot will shoot for the duration of the SOLOSHOT2 setting. So now you can trigger the shooting WAY before taking off.

Viewing on a 22" hi def pc monitor will show the true size of the images when actually viewing the library. Not sure what changes are made upon upload to forum. I do know the sizes are WAY smaller low res.
High Res off the Sony is 5184x2920
Low Res is 640x480

Just did a test run w/the Canon riding my bike. It fired off the entire time while set to 30 secs. Going in now to check out the images. Surf too rough and blown out to even consider.

First go in the surf w/cam controller. Works real well. Now if the sun would only come out. THICK fog so I drained the color outa these shots.

Sun came out, sort of. Actually there was considerable cloud cover but quite a high ceiling so lighting was good. Light offshores didn't hurt. Quite pleased w/the Powershot SX50 results here.

Those are the best distant selfies I've seen yet, really good res and size.

Your local spot is really perfect for that setup, being close in like it seems.

Thanx, J. Being close to shore is def a plus w/the SOLOSHOT. Not so much for framing subject but more so for security. Easy to keep a close eye on it. You could shoot Sunset Beach w/the SX50, it has a 50x optical. But you would def wanna iLock that thing down. My break can vary, sometimes it's way outside, sometimes not so much. it ain't Sunset though, that's for sure!
