Summer south swell in town
« on: May 28, 2015, 08:58:30 PM »
There's a good run of south swell for Hawaii this past 10 days and with a few more weeks of fun still coming.  Got a little gem of a wave on the inside that my friend Oren Sugita was sitting on the shoulder on.  Really great guy, he has a gopro mounted on his helmet and takes video of others throughout his session and gets their email address to send the footage.  Looks like this coming Sunday and Monday we'll have a Hi-surf advisory swell marching in.  Hopefully work will allow me to surf more than one session during this swell.  Hope you guys are scoring some solid surf also!

That same south swell has lit up the eastside of Santa Cruz the last few days.

Certainly got a good pounding around Sharks and Privates Santa Cruz.  It looked like a winter pattern with waves all the way to Capitola.

It was a wave/punishment cycle:  catch good wave, get bashed multiple times on the inside trying to get back out to catch another.  I was really beat up after two and a half hours.

I saw my neighbor going over the falls several times.  He, of course, thought it was all wonderful.

The day helped me to get more used to being lifted up way in the air for steep drops and staying up on radical white water.  Had to knee a lot on the Prowave because the water just had so much choppy energy. Some waves were really fun, choppy roller coasters, strange day.

OH MAN! Dreamy blue Hawaii, sign me up!
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Santa Cruz South held yesterday, a little weaker, but still got a good beating with some nice rides in between.  I was gifted with an area between Privates and Sharks rich with high risers and rides at lower tide that nobody else wanted.  Usually, if somebody sees you catch a few, they figure you are lonely and come over to share the waves.

My neighbor, being the doughty interloper, stuck with the crowds and grom confetti at Sharks.  The SUP brethren were out in force at Sharks yesterday, picking off every wave of every set just about.

I'll go out at about 2 today for the SWerlly leftovers and to force myself into standup balancing mode on the Prowave.

Thanks Rob, it was pretty good. Monday morning and evening had some nice size set waves rolling through.  A few bombs rolling in but eventually turn into one big close out.  Took out the 7'-10" in the pm but it felt too big, too much board on the wave face.  Need to stop by the shop and buy one of those FCS plug gopro mount.
