scuffed my board, noob lessons.
« on: May 27, 2015, 05:16:39 PM »
Don't drag your board from the water onto the beach nose first, no matter how soft the sand is.

Other than not dragging the board onto the sand again, and the very minor cosmetic damage I did to the nose (scraped off finish/see resin) is there any reason for concern here?

I'm such a noob, was a like new JM navigator that I bought, paddled for the first time today.  At least it looks like it's been used now :)

Probably fine, shouldn't be any serious damage unless you ground down far enough to create a leak.  That's unlikely and it's pretty easy to find out.  This method is not very sanitary, but put your mouth on the damaged area and try pull air through.  You will feel it if you can draw air through the damage.  If it still seems water tight, you are probably fine.  If not, it's pretty easy to fix.

Boards rarely stay pristine for long.  Do your best to take care of it and don't worry about little scrapes and nicks.  If that's all the damage you do, you will be among the few.  If it is compromised, it's important to keep it out of the water until you fix it.

Handy to be able to do that though, and tough boards handle that just fine. For the more delicate boards there's nose guards.

I was sucking on the nose of my Vernor one day outside of Privates.  A girl walking by put her hand on her mouth and started laughing.

I told her i really didn't love the board that much, I was testing a crack.  She started laughing even harder, so I thought I should just shut up.
